'New Amsterdam' Season 2 Episode 2: Can Max bounce back after the biggest loss of his life?

Max definitely needs help to get through his hellish period in his life, but he is not ready to ask for it yet.

Season 2 Episode 1 of 'New Amsterdam' which premiered Tuesday, September 24 night, revealed that Georgia (Lisa O'Hare) is no longer a part of the story and while this is great news for fans of Helen (Freeman Agyeman) and Lauren (Janet Montgomery), it is the greatest loss in Max's (Ryan Eggold) life. We saw in the previous episode how he is still more or less living in denial, and immersing himself in his late wife's memories.

Max is now a single dad and thanks to the new cancer treatment, he is strong and healthy enough to run the hospital as he did before chemotherapy started. However, he is extremely broken inside and is struggling to look Helen and Lauren in the face, because he is reminded of his wife who died in the accident whereas these two got to live. He even walked past Helen without giving her so much as a hug when she got back to the hospital after the three-month recovery break.

Lauren seems to be burdened with her own issues, potentially survivors guilt coupled with the fact that she doesn't trust herself to take painkillers despite the immense pain she is in. She is sober now, and she would not want to risk taking any pills even if it means she has a tough time getting through the day. Thankfully, she has Helen by her side, promising to sit by her side and hold her hand through everything.

Helen also wants to be there for Max, but he is refusing to let her in. We also saw her make a huge sacrifice for her sake in the previous episode - share her department with Max's new oncologist whom she has a past with. When Max comes to know of it, he will certainly reverse whatever deal they have, but the way he is ignoring her, it remains to be seen whether he will even come to know of it anytime soon.

Max definitely needs help, but he is not ready to ask for it yet. Watch Season 2 Episode 2 of 'New Amsterdam' which will air Tuesday, October 1, to see how Max is going to get through this hellish period in his life.
