Since day one in NBC hospital drama 'New Amsterdam', the sparks have been noteworthy between Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) and Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman). It's an ever-present, ever-evolving and ever a fan-favorite ship, but with Max being married with a kid, there was no way to make that work. Moreover, Helen was also stripped of her titles as co-chair of the oncology division and deputy medical director by the board leaving her practice at the hospital in limbo.

But with Max's wife Georgia dead, the only thing that remained between them was Helen's job issues. At the beginning, Helen still wasn't sure but by the end of the nailbiting episode, she knew what she really wanted.

After the Rikers inmates escape after severely injuring the guard this week, one of them named Dominique gets left behind. Her blood trail on the hospital floor leads Max to her and he decides to get her help without knowing her identity along with, you guessed it...Helen. But, the smart woman that she is, she almost instantly realizes that Dominique was one of the inmates. However, that doesn't stop the duo from saving her life and as they make way to the hallway to get her to the authorities, another inmate hijacks the party. Max goes to get help, ends up coming back with Jackie's gun pointed at this head.

Jackie, the inmate who orchestrated the whole escape is not the most stable of patients she clearly wasn't afraid to shoot. Max convinces them that he'd get them both out but they soon realize that the third inmate, Adrienne, was still alive and free. Adrienne in the meantime had stabbed Reynolds, the patient they were operating on and remained uncaptured. Under the guise of going back to get Adrienne, Helen leads the two inmates into an ambush, where officers were waiting for them guns blazing.

What was super interesting was that she kept whispering to Max the whole time "Do you trust me?" and Max had unshaken faith in whatever Helen was trying to do. "With my life," he says.

Helen decides that she was indeed going to stay after letting Max ramble on about how he was going to miss her and wanted the best for her. Easily one of the best monologues in the episode, he bares it all in front of her and lets her know he really does want her to stay. It's a step forward for Helen-Max shippers, for sure.

"You deserve to be at a place that sees you, that appreciates you a hundred percent and if that place isn't New Amsterdam then you should go. No matter how much I want you to stay, it's not about what I want. Yeah it'll be weird not seeing you, and i will miss you,” says Max.

New Amsterdam airs on Tuesdays 10 pm on NBC. The show has been renewed for three more seasons.
