New Amsterdam Season 2 Episode 1: Does Max having a new oncologist seal Helen's fate after the accident?

It may very well be that Helen is badly injured from the accident and is healing from her injuries when she refers Valentina to Max.

'New Amsterdam' is returning after what personally seems to be too long a wait on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, and it will answer the burning question we have all had since the Season 1 finale - Who is dead?

Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold), Georgia Goodwin (Lisa O'Hare), Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman), and Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) were all in a grievous accident along with Max and Georgia's newborn Luna. We know for a fact that Luna and Max escaped, thanks to the promos for Season 2, but the fates of Laura, Helen and Georgia still remain a secret.

Primarily because of our fear for the future of the hospital and because we lowkey ship Helen and Max as a romantic couple, we had hoped she would survive the crash. But that optimism has been shaken because we know for a fact that a new doctor has entered 'New Amsterdam' who will become Max's oncologist. According to reports, actress Ana Villafañe has joined the cast as Dr. Valentina Castro and will be seen treating Max in the upcoming season.

As we saw in Season 1, Helen had refused to treat Max for a while, claiming she needed to have some boundaries with him, but after she realized that he truly needed her, she decided to take him back as a patient, and promised to devise a treatment regimen that would work better for him, and would allow him to continue being the medical director for New Amsterdam. This is why the arrival of a new oncologist worries us about Helen's living status.

It is understood that Valentina also has some history with Helen, which is why she passes Max along to her. It may very well be that Helen is badly injured from the accident and is healing from her injuries when she refers Valentina to Max. It could also be that the part of finding a new regimen for Max includes finding a doctor who would understand him and his priorities as well as she does, while she stands by him during the treatment as a friend and a colleague.

That remains to be seen, but the question of whether Helen made it alive after Season 1 will be answered when Season 2 Episode 1 of 'New Amsterdam' premieres on Tuesday, September 24.
