What is 'Beef' about? Plot of the Netflix dramedy series explained

Danny's hard life and the change in his fortunes

We see Danny as a broken man, both emotionally and money-wise, at the beginning of the series. He tries to make money as a honest contractor, but ended up failing badly. So after the impulse decision of throwing his cousin into jail, Danny takes over the rice cooker business that Isaac left behind, which leads to his life improving. Danny becomes the head of the church's 'Praise Team' (which used to be Edwin's role) and starts to date the girl that Isaac had his eye on. This leads him to have a relatively happier life which makes Edwin question Danny's integrity.

A haunting assumption is made

Danny is approached by Edwin at his place. Without beating around the bush, he comes to the point of asking Danny to let him be a part of his business, however shady it might be. This, however, does not sit well with Danny. Danny assures him several times that he is running an honest business of selling rice cookers and worked hard to get to the place where he is now. It is also to be noted that Edwin did not ever like Danny and always tried to get him to move out. Edwin even diminished Danny's profession as a contractor by pointing out the flaws of Danny's repair work at church to belittle him. So the thought of Danny even having a mild measure of success fills his mind with jealousy.

This interaction between Danny and Edwin can be seen in everyone's life in some form or another. Having someone move up in life above their own always bought up the question of the person's integrity and it is accurately portrayed in this episode of 'Beef'.
