The streaming giant Netflix has released the Top 10 Most Popular Releases of 2019, Most Popular Series Releases of 2019, Most Popular Movie Releases of 2019, Most Popular Documentary Releases of 2019 among others as the year comes to end. In a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has come up with the list by tallying the number of subscribers who watched "at least two minutes of a film or TV show in the first 28 days of release."

The No 1 spot on the most popular releases of the year was taken by Jennifer Aniston-Adam Sandler movie 'Murder Mystery'. It was followed by 'Stranger Things' Season 3, Michael Bay's '6 Underground', animated feature 'The Incredibles 2' and Martin Scorcese's 'The Irishman'.

'The Witcher' and 'You' Season 2 have not been on the platform for 28 days and these shows' information is based on projected viewership numbers. It must be noted that unlike this list, Netflix viewership numbers released in quarterly earnings reports are calculated after taking into account the number of subscribers who have watched either 70 percent of a movie title, or 70 percent of Episode 1 of a series to be counted as a view.

The streaming giant also released the most popular content in Japan, South Korea, India and Malaysia, which features a list of American and local content. In South Korea, for instance, the most popular title turned out to be the six-episode first season of historical drama 'Kingdom', according to a report in Variety.

This is also Netflix's first original K drama. Despite having premiered in mid-December with just six episodes in, 'Crash Landing on You', starring Hyun-bin and Son Ye-jin, took the fourth spot while 'The Witcher' and '6 Underground' took the second and third spot respectively. The other Korean drama that was featured in the top 10 list includes 'Persona', 'When the Camellia Blooms', 'Love Alarm', 'Vagabond' and stand-up comedian Park Na-rae’s 'Park Na-Rae: Glamour Warning'.

In India, the top 10 titles with the exception of one were also local content, specifically Hindi. The exception being '6 Underground', which came in at eighth. The series to be featured in the top 10 list in India are 'Sacred Games', 'Kabir Singh', 'Article 15', 'Bard of Blood', 'Drive', 'Badla', 'House Arrest', 'Delhi Crime' and 'Chopsticks'.

In Malaysia, all shows of the top 10 list featured American titles: '6 Underground', 'Murder Mystery,' 'The Witcher', 'Isn’t It Romantic', 'Tall Girl', 'Triple Frontier', 'The Perfect Date', 'Umbrella Academy', 'Secret Obsession' and 'Fractured'.

In Japan, the top 10 titles were a mix of Netflix originals, anime, and one live-action adaptation of an anime. At the first spot was 'The Naked Director', followed by reality show 'Terrace House: Tokyo 2019-2020', '6 Underground', 'Gintama 2: Rules Are Made to Be Broken', 'Rilakkuma and Kaoru', 'Ultraman', 'Call Boy', 'Neon Genesis Evangelion', 'The Witcher' and 'Aquaman'.
