Tick, Tick…Boom’ is undoubtedly one of the highly-anticipated movies of 2021 and it’s considered to be one of the movies that will be a hot favorite during the awards season. The upcoming musical movie is based on the semi-autobiographical musical of the same name directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The film revolves around Jonathan Larson (Andrew Garfield), a young theater composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990 while writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Days before he’s due to showcase his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon is feeling the pressure from everywhere: from his girlfriend Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond New York City; from his friend Michael, who has moved on from his dream to a life of financial security; amidst an artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic

The movie is another big project for the streaming platform Netflix. Previously, movies like ‘The Irishman’, ‘Army of the Dead’ and ‘Fatherhood’ have done pretty well with a stellar star cast and an amazing director. Apart from having an amazing storyline, 'Tick, Tick...Boom' featured a stellar cast as well. Let’s take a look at the cast.

Andrew Garfield as Jonathan Larson

Born on August 28, 1983, Andrew Garfield began acting at a very young age and started with theatre productions. The actor initially wanted to study business but decided to take up acting at the age of 16. He started doing a number of theatre productions to kick start his career and became very successful in it. In 2005, he made his acting debut with projects such as ‘Mumbo Jumbo’ and ‘Swinging’.

However, his moment of glory came in 2010 when he was cast as Eduardo Saverin in David Fincher’s ‘The Social Network’. Garfield was nominated at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes in the Best Supporting Actor category. Since then, he has never looked back. He played Spider-Man in two movies ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. The actor received his first Oscar nomination for the movie ‘Hacksaw Ridge’. ‘Silence’, ‘Breathe’, ‘Under the Silver Lane’ and ‘Mainstream’ are some of the projects he has been a part of recently.

Alexandra Shipp as Susan

Actress-turned-singer Alexandra Shipp moved to Los Angeles for pursuing a career in acting. In 2009, she made her acting debut with a cameo role in the ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel’. The first major acting role in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ as Storm. Meanwhile, she reprised the role of Storm in ‘Dark Phoenix’ and ‘Deadpool 2’.

On the Television side, she made appearances on ‘House of Anubis’, ‘Ray Donovan’, and ‘Days of Our Lives’.



 

Vanessa Hudgens as Karessa Johnson

Vanessa requires no introduction. She ruled the hearts with her stint with Disney and was every boy’s crush during the late 2000s. In 2003, she made her film debut with ‘Thirteen’. However, she rose to fame after portraying Gabriella Montez in the ‘High School Musical’ film series. Hudgens became an overnight star and garnered praise for her acting as well as her voice.

The success of ‘High School Musical’ helped her in acquiring a recording contract with Hollywood Records, with whom she released two studio albums, ‘V’ (2006) and  ‘Identified’ (2008). Since then, she has appeared in movies such as ‘Sucker Punch’, ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’, ‘Spring Breakers’, ‘Powerless’, ‘The Knight Before Christmas’ and ‘Bad Boys For Life’.



 

Robin de Jesus as Michael

Born on August 21, 1984, De Jesus began his career as a stage actor and appeared in various plays. Jesús’s first major role was as Michael in the independent film ‘Camp’. He is perhaps best known for playing the role of Sonny in the 2008 Broadway musical ‘In the Heights’, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

He has also been a part of ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’.



 

‘Tick, Tick…Boom’ will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on November 19.
