'The Great British Baking Show' came to an unexpected but delightful end as Peter Sawkins was announced the ''youngest winner ever." He was competing with Laura Adlington and Dave Friday. The finalists were tasked with an elaborate baking challenge where they had to put together batches of custard and desserts.

Who is Peter Sawkins?

The 20-year-old winner is an accounting and finance student at Edinburgh University. When not baking, he enjoys playing badminton, according to an Edinburgh Live report. It added that he watched the finale with some of the fellows from the university. It wasn't a party but he did celebrate the win with "something similar" to choux buns and a few drinks.

It's not surprising that Peter won given how he eliminated potential winners on his way to the top with nothing but talent and sheer determination to walk away with the prestigious trophy, which he couldn't enjoy until recently because his winning the show had to be kept a secret.

He found it particularly challenging to fly to Edinburgh because he thought the scanners would catch it. “And then it stayed on my family worktop in the kitchen hidden in a box. I can’t wait to crack it out of the box and give it as much use as I possibly can," he told the Evening Standard in an interview.

His winning the show is a dream come true for him more than anyone else because he has been following it for over eight years now. He was 12 when he first began watching the show and was immediately taken by the format and had thought of participating in it some day. Today, he's a "giddy kid" who is excited about the results.

Meanwhile, fans seem to echo his emotions. "I was getting so emotional hearing Peter talk about his love for this show & then We Are Young came on.. im fully sobbing," a fan commented, while another shared: "Peter is such a well deserving #Champion  of #BakeOff ! He’s done amazing all the way through I have to say Dave did give him a run for the title tho in that last showstopper #GBBO Thanks to the crew & everyone that’s made this series happen, keep safe & well."

"Really enjoyed the whole series of this year’s #GBBO Congratulations Peter - very well deserved! Well done Dave & Laura too!," a user posted.
