'He wanted to push the envelope again': Netflix reveals Zack Snyder's 'Rebel Moon' is a two-film project
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix recently released a list of its upcoming movies in a video titled 'SAVE THE DATES'. The video featured glimpses of several highly-anticipated movies along with their release dates. In a recent interview, Kira Goldberg and Ori Marmur, the people responsible for that line-up, opened up on the status of several movies including Zack Snyder's 'Rebel Moon'. They confirmed that the venture will not be a single-movie project.
This is not the first time that Snyder has been roped in for a Netflix project. He has earlier worked on the zombie-themed heist movie 'Army of the Dead'. Meanwhile, the new reveals included Gal Gadot's 'Heart of Stone', Kevin Hart's 'Lift' and Millie Bobby Brown's 'Damsel'. There were also some sequels showcased, including 'Extraction 2' and 'Murder Mystery 2'.

While speaking with 'Variety', Goldberg and Marmur opened up about the platform's 2023 lineup and gave an insight on each of the projects. When asked about Snyder's 'Rebel Moon', Marmur praised the 'Man of Steel' director for coming in with so much passion and noted that Snyder had the idea for this film for decades. He added that the delay was due to his commitment to several other projects at the time, including 'Army of the Dead'.
While reflecting on 'Army of the Dead', Marmur noted that they did what others couldn't do and added that they made a film, a prequel, and launched a live experience. When asked about the two-film 'Rebel Moon', Marmur said Snyder wanted to "push the envelope again."
"With 'Rebel Moon' he wanted to push the envelope again," he said. "When we saw how big the world he created was, we thought it would be better served as two pieces versus one film. It’s the kind of story that can continue to grow. He thinks of it as his take on making something like “Star Wars".”
You can rewatch 'Army of the Dead', streaming only on Netflix.
