As part of exploring more anime projects, Netflix is re-entering the world of the ‘Pacific Rim’ franchise with an anime series called ‘Pacific Rim: The Black’. The forthcoming series is being produced by Legendary Television Studios, with Polygon Pictures taking over the animation part.

The first official trailer of ‘Pacific Rim: The Black’ features the anime-style design and provides a brief idea of what the story will be. The upcoming anime series will follow Taylor and Hayley as they go on an adventure in Australia to search and rescue their parents. The released trailer also teased the ‘Pacific Rim’ franchise fans on how the Kaiju world is still evolving.

Who are the showrunners of 'Pacific Rim: The Black'?

‘Pacific Rim: The Black’ anime series is created by Greg Johnson, who previously worked on ‘Transformers: Rescue Bots’ and Marvel Comics writer Craig Kyle. The characters and narrative structure are based on Travis Beacham and Guillermo del Toro’s 'Pacific Rim’ story.



 

Who are the voice-over artists?

Netflix’s ‘Pacific Rim: The Black’ anime series brings acclaimed Japanese voice-over artists. Yui Shimodaya providing the voice for Hayley Travis. Shimodaya has previously worked on a 2006 TV show, ‘Gintama’.

Yusuke Kobayashi will voice Taylor Travis. Kobayashi, 35, has achieved international success after working in projects like ‘A Certain Scientific Railgun S’, ‘White Album 2’, ‘The Heroic Legend of Arslan’, ‘Shimoneta’, ‘The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent’, and others.

The names of English voice-over artists are yet to be announced by Netflix.

Plot of 'Pacific Rim: The Black'

The story is based on del Toro’s blockbuster ‘Pacific Rim’ movie franchise and will continue showing the epic battles between monsters and robots. The anime series is set to expand the story told in the first two ‘Pacific Rim’ movies. The official plot of the anime series is: “There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.”

When is 'Pacific Rim: The Black' is releasing?

‘Pacific Rim: The Black’ is set for a March 4, 2021 release on Netflix.

Will there be a Season 2 of 'Pacific Rim: The Black'?

Netflix’s adaptation to ‘Pacific Rim’ was earlier scheduled to be released in 2020. However, the series got delayed for undisclosed reasons. As of now, Netflix plans to release a total of two seasons of ‘Pacific Rim: The Black’.
