Spanish thrillers can be hits or misses. But this one seems like it rehashes plot points from and all the chils and thrills of the Nicholas Cage film 'Con Air'. Only this time, the cop in question is transporting them by road, not air, in a prison van. And the temperatures outside are, you guessed it, 'Below Zero'. Still, if you like tense action thrillers, this might be a good pick.

Release Date

The film will release on January 29 at 8:30 am ET.

Plot

If you’re transporting a vehicle full of prisoners, the last thing you want is to be stuck with them in the middle of nowhere. The driver of the prison van, carrying convicts, is transporting them in the middle of the night through a desolate area. A frigid snowy landscape surrounds them and this is when the vehicle is brutally assaulted. The driver, who is also a cop, survives but is then forced to fortify his position while the prisoners try to figure out a way to take him out.

Cast

It won ten Goya Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor for Javier Gutiérrez. The Spanish actor has appeared in more than fifty films since 2002. He also portrayed Tomás de Torquemada in the 2016 Hollywood film 'Assassin's Creed'.

This is the second feature film for director and co-writer Lluís Quílez, who made his feature debut with the 2014 Julia Stiles horror film 'Out of the Dark'. His co-writer on 'Below Zero' was Fernando Navarro.
