NCT members are currently celebrating the successful release of their group album, ‘Universe.’ The album like other NCT albums is doing well on charts as well as in terms of sales, which is why the members have decided that it was not okay to let their small slip-up taint the release of their new album and decided to take responsibility for their actions.

On the evening of December 14, the 21 active members of NCT gathered together for a special live stream. While the members of the group were addressing fans, an alarm started going off in a distance that confused the members of the group. After being informed by the staff that the alarm was to signal a natural disaster, members of the group were told that a sudden earthquake had stricken Jeju Island in South Korea. The said disaster was a 4.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred 41km southwest of Seogwipo-si, Jeju.

'Earthquake' song and dance

While this happened, the members who were on the live stream heard the word "Earthquake" and behaved rashly — something that their fans did not like. NCT’s Doyoung initiated the slip-up by recalling a song from the group’s subunit, NCT 127 titled ‘Earthquake,’ which is part of their most recent album, ‘Universe’.

As soon as Doyoung said the title of the song, Mark began singing the song which led to Johnny getting off his seat to dance to the song. The other members, who were sitting near Mark and Johnny, realized that this inappropriate behavior was going to land not just the three members in trouble but was also a PR disaster for the whole group. After all, no one likes jokes about a natural disaster.

Member Jisung told Doyoung and Mark that they shouldn't be clowning around while Sungchan physically stopped Johnny from dancing and the group resumed their comeback live stream.

Mark, Doyoung, and Johnny apologize

As soon as the broadcast ended, each of the three took to their Instagram accounts to apologize for their hasty rash reactions to the natural calamity. Mark took to his Instagram story saying, “I want to say that I am very sorry for the appearance I showed on today’s comeback live. I am very sorry for not understanding the situation properly and for showing careless and frivolous behavior.”

Seeking forgiveness from fans, Doyoung also took to his Instagram story to say, “I made a rash mistake without properly recognizing the situation in today's comeback live broadcast. I want to apologize to those who may have been hurt and uncomfortable because of my careless remarks.” He continued, “I'm sorry once again and I will try my best not to repeat such a mistake in the future. Once again, I want to apologize to everyone who has been harmed by my remarks.”

Johnny also apologized saying, “I'm sorry that I acted rashly during today’s comeback live. I will think and act more carefully in the future. I'm really sorry. I apologize once again to everyone who may have felt inconvenienced by my actions.”
