News
With a growing list of shows that talk about the faking of health conditions for selfish reasons, people that have in fact suffered from a chronic illness such as cancer have come to call this show as harmful. Being accused of faking illnesses or their symptoms is something a person with an illness dreads, facing social stigma and at times mistreatment from close circles. Critics speak about how shows such as 'Mythomaniac' could minimize the importance of people that suffer from chronic illnesses especially when they do not have obvious physical symptoms.
As of November 22, Netflix has not confirmed the release of season 2, while social media enthusiasts spark a debate on the possible idea that the show would be problematic for individuals that suffer with chronic illnesses.
Trailer
The trailer for Season 1 begins with an emotional aesthetic to justify Elvira's decision to fabricate a lie that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. 'The sicker I got, the nicer people were to me' seems to be the context at which this show echoes its story.
