MTV VMAs 2021: Silk Sonic's Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak win Best R&B award
The MTV Video Music Awards 2021 are here and music lovers can hardly keep calm. After a hiatus of one year due to the pandemic, the awards are being held in front of a live audience once again this time. The pre-show was filled with glitz and glamour as celebrities turned up on the red carpet looking drop-dead gorgeous. The ceremony saw powerhouse performances by favorite musical artists like Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Chlöe, Lil Nas X, Machine Gun Kelly, Kacey Musgraves, Olivia Rodrigo, Shawn Mendes, Twenty One Pilots and more.
One of the most important categories for the night included Best R&B and the list of nominations was impressive, to say the least. Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, SAINt JHN, WizKid were nominated for 'BROWN SKIN GIRL', Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic for 'Leave The Door Open', Chris Brown and Young Thug for 'Go Crazy', Giveon for 'HEARTBREAK ANNIVERSARY', H.E.R ft. Chris Brown for 'Come Through' and SZA for 'Good Days'. Ultimately, the award was bagged by Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic for 'Leave The Door Open' and fans couldn't wait to celebrate the win.

After the win, Anderson .Paak took to Twitter to celebrate in the most hilarious manner, as he tweeted, "@BrunoMars BRO HIT ME BACK WE ACTUALLY WON!!!" The award marked Bruno Mars' fourth VMAs and first for the Silk Sonic duo. However, they soon topped it up with winning the Best Editing award, defeating Harry Styles' 'Treat People With Kindness'. The Silk Sonic duo had previously won at the BET Awards 2021 for their track.
"Congrats to the best duo ever @silksonic for winning best R &B!," an ecstatic fan tweeted.
However, some fans believed that the Silk Sonic duo chose to skip the VMAs and did not receive their awards in person because the Best R&B category was not given as much importance as the others. "I think I understand why Silk Sonic didn't perform now at the vmas. They didn't even show the Best R/B song category. Wasn't worth their time. I was only watching to see them anyway," a fan shared.
A third fan jokingly asked Bruno Mars, "C’mon @BrunoMars

MTV Video Music Awards 2021 was held on September 12, 2021, at Barclays Center, New York City. The 40th edition of the awards ceremony kicked off at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT and was aired live on CTV.
