Ms. Marvel is the first-ever Pakistani superhero in the MCU, and she was also the first Muslim hero to headline her own Marvel comic. In September 2020, Iman Vellani was cast as the title character Kamala Khan in the upcoming Disney+ series 'Ms. Marvel' (2022), marking her onscreen debut. The series follows Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American girl growing up in Jersey City. She’s an artist, a gamer, a fan-fiction writer, and, most importantly, an Avengers fangirl. Her normal teen life changes when she gains superpowers that allow her to harness cosmic energy.

Just like her character, the 19-year-old Pakistan-born Canadian Iman is also a comic book super fan. While Kamala dreams of becoming a real-life Avenger one day, Iman herself is a Marvel comic lover turned MCU star. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Imani revealed, “Marvel was the only thing I ever talked about growing up and [my friends] would just kind of have to listen to me, just wave me off. And now they actually have to listen to me and they can’t avoid it.” Scroll down to learn more about the star.

What was Iman Vellani's first movie?

Iman Vellani is a newcomer and hasn't been part of mainstream movies or TV series before. However, during the pandemic in 2020, she directed and acted in two short films titled 'PUSH' and ‘Requiem for a Pandemic,’ both of which were released on Vimeo. The following year, she directed and acted in a short film titled, 'I Don't Wanna B Alone.'

In September 2020, Iman was cast as the title character Kamala Khan in the upcoming Disney+ series 'Ms. Marvel,' marking her onscreen debut. She will also reprise the role in the film 'The Marvels' (2023) opposite Brie Larson.

Kamala Khan co-creator Sana Amanat, who also serves as a co-executive producer on the television series, praised Vellani's Zoom audition which revealed that she is an Avengers fangirl like Khan. Amanat told Empire, "She showed me every corner of her room, and it was covered with Avengers. Then she said, 'Oh wait, I'm not done', opened up her closet, and there was more Marvel everywhere".

What is Iman’s net worth?

Iman’s net worth is estimated to be around $500k, and she makes the most of her money from her Disney+ show. Iman's brother is an engineer and her mother is a nurse practitioner, while her dad is an accountant. She graduated from Unionville High School in the Regional Municipality of York - which was also the high school of 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' star Hayden Christensen. In fact, Christensen was also part of the same drama program as she did. Iman was also selected as a member of the TIFF Next Wave Committee at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. Before being cast in 'Ms. Marvel', Iman had planned on attending the Ontario College of Art & Design University with a focus on integrated media.
