NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'Mr and Mrs Smith' starts off with a moderately engaging plot as two spies are put together under the same roof to pretend a married couple while carrying out some high-risk missions.
The magnitude of risks multiple with each mission while they also develop feelings for each other.
'Mr and Mrs Smith' introduces John Smith (Donald Glover) as a highly competitive and emotionally unintelligent man while Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) has anti-social tendencies, and is perceived as numb and manipulative.
The two are put together in a lavish residence where they also receive details of their first mission.
What's in the package?
The mission seems simple. All it requires for them is to follow an old woman, intercept her package, and drop it off at a given address.
After a long quiet chase, John and Jane manage to divert the old lady's attention and get hold of the package. On their way to make the delivery, John assumes that it might be carrying military-grade weapons, considering its heavy weight.
Upon reaching the address, they found out that it was just a gorgeous cake inside the package. With disappointed faces, John and Jane exit the residence, unwary of what's about to come next.
The residence blows up and the Smiths make a narrow escape as they realize that the package they delivered carried an explosive hidden inside the cake.
What was the mission all about?
The Smiths complete their first mission where they unknowingly blow up a house and escape the scene without getting caught. At this point, it remains unclear who were those people who were killed.
However, it might have something to do with the shootings that happened in the opening scene of the series.
Towards the end of the first episode, John and Jane are finally seen getting comfortable with each other as they begin to open up about their past.
