'Mortel' Episode 2: Victor and Sofiane are like Siamese twins with a dash of good and bad in both

There's a little bit of bad in good and a little bit of good in bad. United by minds and divided by bodies, the boys are a perfect symbolism of life

Call it a boon or a bane, Sofiane and Victor are trapped by Obé in a pact they chose one-sidedly. When Obé sealed the deal, he also unleashed two special powers — gaining physical control over people and reading minds.

The coolest thing about this whole power system is that the boys are not even remotely related, but end up functioning like Siamese Twins.

Sofiane obtains the former and loses control over himself. He gets so high on the power that he ends up hurting his own professors at school. To make things worse, he uses his power on Victor, who still isn't aware of his psychic abilities so far.

Victor gets the shock of his life after he finds out about his ability to read minds. He is easily able to hear what others are thinking inside their heads and fishes out lies just like that.

Now that Victor can read minds and Sofiane can control bodies, it makes them unbeatable. However, with all the power comes a drawback that is, their powers would work only if they are in close proximity to each other.

Throughout the episode, it is as if they are united by a mind that is controlled by Obé and divided by the bodies. Their basic instinct is to save each other in times of need. If one dies, there is no point in the other's survival. Together they made one complete powerful unit.

It is spectacular to watch them use combinations of their powers to get to the truth. The duo has developed coordination and formulated a connection that would make them last until the very end. Their sole goal is, however, to find Reda's murderer.

At one point, it also feels like the boys are a symbolism of "YinYang". The sign denotes that there's a little bit of bad in good and a little bit of good in bad. That exact symbolism was represented through each of the boys.

For instance, Sofiane is represented as a miscreant who keeps getting in trouble. So, for his character, as bad as he is, the good part comes in when he decides to use his powers for good to find out who raped and threatened Luisa at the party.

As for Victor, his character isn't exactly a goody two shoes, but he hadn't caused trouble either. Due to his powers, he can not hold back from wanting to read Lusia's thoughts about him.

It is the insecurity that hits him hard like a football in the face. So, he keeps reading people's minds even when it isn't necessary. Call it privacy invasion or mismanagement of powers, in the end, it leads to his character's catharsis.

They have to live together and survive with their powers. If they fail to accept who they are, it will only create chaos. They chose this life for themselves and there is no going back from this one.

Watch 'Mortel' only on Netflix.
