Spoiler alert for Modern Family Season 11 Episode 12

Tonight’s episode of ‘Modern Family’ Season 11 offered some light-hearted entertainment, which was much-needed, after the death of a Dunphy in Episode 11 which had us reaching for our tissues.

In Episode 12 ‘Dead on A Rival’ Alex Dunphy (Ariel Winter) has to bear with Jay Pritchett's (Ed O'Neill) old personal assistant Margaret (Marsha Karmer), who has been hired by the former’s grandfather as the best fit for the job. However, Alex’s patience is put to test when Margaret’s old-school assisting methods begin to affect her role at her new job.

Meanwhile, the Dunphys’ old neighbor-turned-tech-titan, Kenneth (Josh Gad) surprises Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) with an opportunity to visit the International Space Station in Russia. However, the latter isn't too thrilled about the same and asks Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) to help him get out of it. But, Claire ends up selling Phil off when Kenneth, on seeing her resume offers her an exciting job.

Claire’s big dreams for her future are short-lived when Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland)  ends up snatching the offer from her mother unintentionally by imparting wisdom to Kenneth, who was too scared to set on an adventure without Phil.

Meanwhile, chaos unfolds in the Pritchett household as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett's (Sofia Vergara) ex-husband Javier Delgado (Benjamin Bratt) wants to take Manny Delgado (Rico Rodriguez) on a year-long cruise, which he won as a prize in poker. Although Gloria resists the thought of her son witnessing a lot of nudity while on the cruise, Manny’s latest theater performance convinces her to send him with his father, so he can stop being an "old soul".

‘Dead on A Rival’ also explores a day in Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson)  and Cameron Tucker's (Eric Stonestreet) life as well, which sees an unexpected guest. While Mitch is worried about losing out on pants of his size at a sale, Cam is rather concerned about his old neighbor Murray Clark (Paul Dooley), who wants to take his last breath in their house.

Missing in tonight’s episode were Luke Dunphy (Noland Gould) and Lily Tucker-Pritchett ( Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) while the rest of the members of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker households were busy dealing with their own set of issues.
