Miss Universe 2019: Steve Harvey's 'cartel comment' and best costume winner gaffe irks viewers as they demand he be 'fired' from the show
Miss Universe 2019 saw Steve Harvey returning as the host and fans were hoping that he would not repeat the mistake of 2015 Miss Universe. Harvey previously came under fire after he announced the wrong winner for Miss Universe in 2015. People were hoping that he would be leaving the contest after his blunder but it looks like he got a second chance.
Despite this, this year, there have been several instances that have left people wanting Harvey to be out of the show. At first, Harvey poked fun at his own mistake and urged people to get over it. However, people were upset with the comments that he kept making throughout the show this time as well.
People were unhappy when Harvey made the 'cartel comment' about Miss Colombia. Many thought that it was insensitive and that he should be more aware of the words he used. The second mishap followed when tried to mimic an Asian language. Fans thought that he was not respecting the culture in the name of the joke.
Looking like a repeat of 2015, Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Philippines Gazini Ganados as the winner of the Best National Costume special award instead of Miss Malaysia Shweta Sekhon.
Many took to social media and demanded that Harvey be banned from the show. "Why isn’t Steve Harvey banned from hosting Miss Universe," read one comment.
Another added, "Petition for that shitty American Steve Fucking Harvey to stop hosting the #MissUniverse. Cracking a joke about the Philippine National Costume is so f**king unnecessary. F**k Steve Harvey,"
One commenter did not hesitate to make it clear that he wanted Harvey fired as the comment read, "Fire Steve Harvey get rid of him he's annoying." Meanwhile, there were others who were surprised that he was still part of the pageant after his 2015 blunder. "I can’t believe Steve Harvey is STILL the host of the miss universe pageant like after what he did in 2016 I’m surprised they didn’t fire him but good for him," read the comment.
