‘Memories of the Alhambra’ is going through some bleak times, with male lead Jin Woo (Hyun Bin) losing almost everything he holds dear to his heart and our female lead Hee-joo (Park Shin-hye). In episode 11, which aired Saturday on tvN and Netflix, we saw Jin Woo coming to face-to-face with the cold body of his trusted secretary Jung-hoon (Min Jin-woong), his position in J One Holdings is slipping through his fingers and he still is no closer to finding Se-joo (Chenyeol) than he was earlier.

It doesn’t help that he is being investigated for the murder of Jung-hoon, even as he struggles with the guilt of his death in the first place. But, despite everything he has lost, he is “not done” as he kept telling Son-ho (Lee Seung-joon). He has more fight in him and whether it is with back-up or not he wants to keep advancing until he can finish the game and find the creator.

He feels he has nothing to lose and what is the point of running away now? “I’ve already ruined myself too much,” he told Son-ho and this is his motivation to dig deeper into the mystery of the game. However, there is one person he can turn to in the midst of all this chaos.

Hee- joo has done so much for Jin Woo from Hee-joo has done for him, including nursing him back to health when he was weak and was being haunted by the ghost of his dead ex-best friend.
Hee- joo has done so much for Jin Woo from Hee-joo has done for him, including nursing him back to health when he was weak and was being haunted by the ghost of his dead ex-best friend.

As he explained to her, his parents died when he was young, he is twice-divorced with no children, the best friend he loved died as his enemy and his secretary who was like his brother died fighting his battle. The man whom he considered his father is plotting against him, the company he built from the ground up has turned its back on him. Naturally, Jin Woo feels lonely in life, with no one to confide in and no one that believes in him, except for Hee-joo, who is in her own personal hell.

Her adoration for him is obvious. In fact, if it wasn’t for her quick thinking and that timely phone call, Jin Woo would be dead like Jung-hoon. She the only the one who trusts him the way he wants her to. He-joo doesn’t ask Jin Woo to hide, instead stands by him during his crazy journey.

His long and difficult conversation with Son-ho forces Jin Woo to look back on everything Hee-joo has done to express her feelings for him, from running behind his train from Granada while returning to Seoul, to nursing him back to health when he was weak and was being haunted by the ghost of his dead ex-best friend. He needed her to know how much she meant to him, and to prove that he plans to kiss her.

When we say kiss, we mean an earth-shatteringly beautiful and pure kiss that expresses not just the romantic frustration of Jin Woo and Hee-joo, but also that of the fans. In fact, that kiss inspired fans to respond with comments like, “The feels for Memories of the Alhambra episode 11!!!!! Waaaaaah the OTP kiss snapped. Damn Hyunbin. “ and ”I told myself I wasn’t gonna watch Memories of the Alhambra until it finishes, but there was a kiss scene today so I can’t just not watch it  “

Needless to say,  the build-up was worth it and the fans are satisfied. Don't forget to watch new episodes of 'Memories of the Alhambra' Saturdays and Sundays on Netflix and tvN.
