MBC Gayo Daejejeon 2021: SuperM 'Tiger Inside' collab stage has fans saying 'iconic'

K-pop idols born in 1998, which was the year of the tiger, will perform SuperM's 'Tiger Inside' for the music festival

Year-end music festivals are looked forward to by every K-pop stan as we get some iconic performances, collab stages and interactions between our favorite artists. Broadcast since 1966, MBC’s festival is one of the biggest year-end annual music shows. Titled MBC Gayo Daejejeon, the 2021 edition will be held on New Year’s Eve. And the broadcast channel is going all out for it as evident from SuperM’s ‘Tiger Inside’ collab stage being performed by leading boy groups.

Last year, we had some surprising pair-ups and collab stages for MBC Gayo Daejejeon 2020. Popular fourth-gen group members from The Boyz, Stray Kids, Itzy, (G)I-DLE and IZ*ONE gave tribute to SSAK3 while we got the huge collab stage with Loona and The Boyz performing The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’. Legendary soloist Uhm Junghwa teamed up with Monsta X’s Jooheon and Hwasa, while Monsta X’s Shownu and NCT’s Ten gave us a dance cover of DJ Khaled’s ‘Popstar’. We also got former labelmates Rain and JYP getting together to perform their popular hits together for the music festival.

MBC’s ‘Tiger Inside’ collab stage

For MBC Gayo Daejejeon 2021, one of the collab stages that fans are looking forward to is the boy groups performance. Since 2022 is the year of the tiger according to the lunar calendar, there had been rumors that Korean fans had seen idols preparing for a collab stage of SuperM’s ‘Tiger Inside’. Well, the rumors turned out to be true. The MBC music festival will have a special stage with seven male idols born in 1998 which was the year of the tiger. They will be performing SuperM's ‘Tiger Inside’. The idols participating are:

The Boyz’s Juyeon and Q

Astro’s Moonbin

Stray Kids’ Lee Know

Pentagon’s Kino

AB6IX’s Kim Donghyun

We are also getting more collab stages from male idols, girl groups and soloists. Some that have been revealed are:

The Music Show MC collab stage - f(x)’s ‘Rum Pum Pum’. Performed by IVE’s Yujin and Wonyoung, Itzy’s Yeji, Kim Minju and (G)I-DLE’s Miyeon. Fans are excited since Yujin, Wonyoung and Minju were all part of the girl group IZ*ONE.

'I think I'm gonna cry'

Excited fans have been trending ‘Tiger Inside’ as they wonder if their favorites will get the killing parts like Taeyong’s growl or Kai’s centre dance break in the original performance. A Stray Kids fan asked, “Lee know bestie *slides money across the table* i heard you're covering taeyong's rap verse for the tiger inside stage is that true.” A The Boyz fan commented, “Ten’s tiger inside part has changmin [Q] written all over it, he has to be covering this part.”

A SuperM fan flexed, “Taeyong in Tiger Inside is really iconic. I understand why many people want his parts for their faves.” Another joked, “Everyone performing Tiger Inside but SuperM themselves.” A multifan shared, “Oh no hwanwooong and moonbin will eat everyone up.” A Pentagon fan shared, “If kino took baekhyun or taemin part i think i'm gonna cry.” Another multi fan added, “There's donghyun too OMG!! JUYEON AND DONGHYUN IN ONE STAGE?????”

MBC Gayo Daejejeon 2021 will take place on December 31 at 8:40 pm KST (6:40 am ET) on MBCkpop’s YouTube channel.
