Since meeting Iris in Season 1 of 'Mayor of Kingstown', Mike has felt an undeniable pull to protect and support her. His commitment to her safety was so strong that Milo Sunter (Aidan Gillen) knew he could manipulate Mike by putting Iris in danger.
Although the end of Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2 tried to suggest a possible romance between Mike and Iris, nothing really happened.

A mature woman behaving in such a manner is really frustrating. Now, with Iris in trouble once again, Mike is compelled to help her. It's high time for Iris to take control of her own life.
Based on Iris's behavior and Mike's response, it doesn't seem like there is potential for a love story between them in 'Mayor of Kingstown'.
