LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After playing the rule-following Captain America for about a decade, Chris Evans decided to change tack and took on the role of a full-on villain in Rian Johnson's 2019 movie 'Knives Out'. The sequel 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery', however, took a different course and had a new plot and new characters, except for Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc. Now, Chris Evans is pitching a potential return of his character in the next installment of the mystery series.

'Knives Out' found enormous box office success with a cast that included Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, Chris Evans as Ransom Drysdale, Ana de Armas as Marta Cabrera, Jamie Lee Curtis as Linda Drysdale, Michael Shannon as Walt Thrombey, Don Johnson as Richard Drysdale, Toni Collette as Joni Thrombey, LaKeith Stanfield as Lieutenant Elliott, Christopher Plummer as Harlan Thrombey, and Katherine Langford as Meg Thrombey.

'It can't be a redemption story'

Asked about the potential return of Ransom Drysdale either in a sequel or a spin-off in an interview, Evans mapped out some possibilities for the character. He explained that Ransom's must not be a redemption story as no one wants to see that, according to Comicbook.com. He described a scenario where Ransom gets out of jail via a loophole and pretends to have been reformed while planning a perfect revenge against Benoit Blanc and Marta.

"It can't be like a redemption story. No one wants to see Ransom find redemption. Maybe he gets out of jail off of some sort of high-priced lawyer's loophole. But then, maybe he goes good. Yeah, I mean, like Sideshow Bob, like runs for office. But it's an elaborate plan to actually take down Benoit Blanc and Marta. It's revenge in plain sight. You know what I mean?" he said.

Is it possible?

Evans' idea isn't entirely implausible. In 'Knives Out', Ransom learns that Harlan left his entire fortune to his nurse Marta, and left him penniless. He kills Harlan and tries to frame Marta in retaliation. This, however, backfires, thanks to Marta's good nature and Benoit Blanc's intelligence. When we last saw Ransom, he was arrested for killing Harlan. So, Chris Evan's theory has the potential to be translated to the screen.

Both parts of 'Knives Out' have been huge successes, and a third installment to the franchise is not far away. We have to wait for the official announcement to learn more.

'Knives Out' is currently available on Netflix.
