'I want it too': Margot Robbie PUSHES for Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's comic romance to come live
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In the 2020 'Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey', we saw how four years after the defeat of the Enchantress, the Joker breaks up with Harley Quinn, throwing her out on the Gotham City streets. Although she ain't homeless because she is taken in by Doc, the owner of a Taiwanese restaurant, and recovers from her relationship by cutting her hair and adopting a spotted hyena who she named Bruce Wayne. After much anticipation, Harley blows up the Ace Chemicals plant as a way to publicly announce her breakup with Joker because their relationship started there when the latter saved her after she jumped in the paint.
However, it is time for a new chapter. It is time for Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn to get into a new relationship with Poison Ivy. As introduced in the DC comics, we are accustomed to the fact of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy being in a relationship that turns out to be healthy for her. The movie moved Robbie's Quinn away from the darker, damsel-in-distress tone that she had taken on in 'Suicide Squad', and turned her into more of a fun-loving, strong, independent character, as she often appears in the comics.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Robbie said that she's "been pushing" for a Harley and Ivy romance for years. This echoes sentiments she has been sharing since 2018. Robbie also said when she pictures her Harley alongside Ivy, she imagines the Poison Ivy from the comics, rather than any particular actress. "I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I've been pushing for that. I want it too. Honestly, when I pictured, I always picture like Poison Ivy in the comics. I don't really actually picture an actress doing it, but I agree, that would be so good," Robbie stated.
In the comics, Ivy and Quinn are shown as best friends turned lovers. Unlike most villain team-ups, their partnership is based on genuine friendship and mutual respect. Ivy sincerely wants to save Harley from her unhealthy abusive relationship with Joker. Accordingly, Poison Ivy despises the Joker and the two exchange vicious banter at every opportunity they get. Quinn's origin story features her as a former psychiatrist at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum named Dr Harleen Quinzel, who fell in love with the Joker, her patient, eventually becoming his accomplice and lover, both in the movie and the comics.
