Fans say 'Margot Robbie IS Harley Quinn' amid news of Lady Gaga playing role in 'Joker' sequel
The Hollywood Reporter gave DC fans quite the surprise when it reported that Lady Gaga was in talks to star in Todd Philips' 'Joker' sequel. It added that she may play Harley Quinn, the Joker's psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who falls in love with him and eventually becomes his partner as they wreak havoc in Gotham. However, fans who loved Margot Robbie as the character in the previous DC flicks have been solid in their support for the actress on Twitter even as reports of Gaga as Quinn did the rounds.
Titled 'Folie à deux', the film sees the return of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck and is also reported to be a musical of sorts, which again stirred up a debate on social media. Coming back to Robbie, she essayed Quinn in 'Suicide Squad's both installments and her own standalone movie, 'Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey'.

"Margot Robbie IS Harley Quinn and there's no one that could ever replace her in the role," one of the fans opined. "Margot Robbie needs one more film as Harley Quinn to complete her character arc with Poison Ivy. It would be a mistake if that never happens," one of the fans remarked. "I don’t know about anyone else but no one can play harley quinn like margot robbie," another fan commented. "I'm sorry but no one will ever do Harley Quinn as well as Margot Robbie did IMO, a fan echoed. "Margot Robbie was too good Why can't you get Margot Robbie to do it?" one asked.
Some felt Gaga wasn't a bad choice. "Why would you boycott it? Lady Gaga isn't a bad actress and I'd love to see a Harley that's more like she is in DC Black Label. Have you read any of these stories? This doesn't mean Margot Robbie is no longer Harley as they can have multiple versions." That tweet perhaps was lost as the campaign to have Robbie as Quinn enveloped Twitter. "Respectfully no. Even as a huge Gaga FAN. Margot Robbie is cannon now. Stop it pls," a tweet read.
"Margot Robbie is amazing but I feel like y’all haven’t given other people a chance to play Harley & maybe this Harley isn’t a goofy circus freak. Maybe this one is a smart, expensive circus freak who is trying control her mental problems & the jokers as well," one of the fans commented.

Even if Gaga is indeed cast as Quinn assuming the deal comes through, she will play the character in a different universe than the one Robbie starred in. 'Joker' was one of the hit films in 2019 raking in the moolah and also lauded for being one of the finest DC films to date. It ended up with 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture and won the best actor and best score.
