"The whole situation is sad for me. I understand it's not your forte," Naomi said as she wiped her tears. "This one assignment was not for you. I am just sad because I don't want to see you go"

Spoilers for 'Making The Cut'

Fashion competition reality shows can be unpredictable and the Amazon-backed 'Making The Cut' is not different. The challenges are different each week and not necessarily in keeping with each contestant's signature style.

Sabato Russo who has been a judges' favorite since the beginning of the show was shown the doors in episode 5 after he failed to impress with a two-look streetwear mini collection. He was confused right from the time the designers were tasked with the assignment. He struggled to put together his look and would often step out of the work studio for a smoke.

Tim Gunn asked Sabato how he was handling all of the pressure because he is probably the only one who understands anything but streetwear. "I was thinking, what is really streetwear. How do you perceive streetwear? You know I just saw my friend in Harajuku (a neighborhood in Tokyo, Japan, known for street art and youth fashion). He was super avant-garde. So, Harajuku for me is avant-garde. I'm gonna follow my heart," he shared with Tim, who seemed to have loved a piece that finally didn't make it to the runway.

The ones he showed were not only not received well by the judges - Heidi Klum, Joseph Altuzarra, Chiara Ferragni, and Naomi Campbell - but also left Tim heavily disappointed, who even went on to defend him while the panel questioned his choices for the day.

"From the very first day when I met you and when you showed us the pieces that you brought, I fell in love with you immediately. With your clothes, with you as a person. But I have to say today, I was like boy oh boy what is he sending down the runway? It was this goth girl and I was like who are you? What is happening all of a sudden? It was not good today," Heidi commented in shock.

"I don't know what to say. The whole situation is sad for me. I understand it's not your forte. I didn't like either of the dresses. Streetwear is not for everyone. This one assignment was not for you. I am just sad because I don't want to see you go," Naomi said as she wiped away her tears.

Joseph shared his feedback too. He elaborated on how his looks weren't what is expected of him, it felt like he was "in his head," and the fabrics didn't flow naturally. "It felt inauthentic," the designer-judge added.

It was a sad day for Sabato but Rinat Brodach had reason to celebrate because she won the challenge and walked away with an opportunity to create co-branded looks with Puma. Rinat's patchwork and choice of colors, which was a welcome departure from the regular blacks she is used to working with, were appreciated by all.
