'Madam Secretary' season 6 episode 8: Fans want show's writers to give Liz a break as their hearts break for her predicament

With this being the CBS drama's final season, fans are all riled up over how much more are they going to dump on the perfectly wholesome Elizabeth who is just trying to do their job.

This article contains spoilers for season 6, episode 8.

Things heat up in the White House on 'Madame Secretary', as our newly-elected now Madam President Elizabeth McCord is scrutinized under her impeachment inquiry. Her daughter Stevie is being questioned as her personal life gets butchered for her liaisons with a former opium-addict, Dimitri. But Elizabeth's list of woes stretch further as she is being subjected to unfairness purely because she is the first woman president of the United States, and with season 6 being the CBS drama's final season, fans are riled up wondering over how much more they're going to dump on the perfectly wholesome Elizabeth who is just trying to do their job.

According to the official synopsis of the latest episode - 8, “An American tech CEO goes missing in a foreign country. Elizabeth navigates complicated diplomatic terrain to get him back without triggering a regional conflict. Also, things get personal when Stevie and Henry testify at House impeachment proceedings.” So while the impeachment hearing looms like a cloud of gloom over the McCords' lives, Elizabeth also has to offer active thought into why the tech CEO - Eli Volk randomly went missing in Iran.

Turns out it was all a part of Russia and Iran's oil deal, and lapse in payment from the Russians caused Iran to capture Volk -- a US citizen. Even Liz's demands that Volk be released are absolutely snubbed, and as the US military tries to retrieve Volk, things end up in chaos -- none of which Elizabeth deserves on a day where everything is getting messed up already. Luckily, things have a way of working out in the end for Elizabeth, to whatever derivative of normalcy she can attain in her current predicament. But as she sits in the White House looking at the great wall of portraits of former presidents, even the half-eaten pizza lying next to her or the presence of her ever-so-loving husband Henry comforting her, can't steal fans away from the back-to-back crisis Elizabeth is met with in the final season of the show.

Taking to Twitter, fans expressed their shock and frustration, tweeting: "I get why the #MadamSecretary writers went w/ this storyline that mimics what's actually happening in the U.S. But it breaks my heart what they are putting Elizabeth through during her last season. I hope at least the last episode is a happy one that nicely wraps the show up." Another fan was all praise for the direction the final season is heading as it clearly brings out the bias that women undergo in politics. "I’m really grateful to #MadamSecretary for showing how harshly and unfairly women in politics are treated. What Elizabeth and her family are having to endure is exactly what the media and republicans have put Hillary Clinton through for the past 30 years," they shared.

'Madam Secretary' season 6 airs on Sundays at 10 pm only on CBS.
