It looks like Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Lucas Till) is about to have a bit of a family reunion on the upcoming episode of 'MacGyver' Season 4. Episode 8 'Father + Son + Father + Matriarch' will see the return of Tate Donovan as James MacGyver, codename: Oversight and Mac's estranged father.

The reunion between father and son couldn't be happening under worse circumstances though as they are brought together by a bombing that almost kills the older MacGyver. It appears James is going to rope Mac in so they can go after Oversight's nemesis and archenemy Elliot Mason (guest star Peter Weller), whom James suspects of being the bomber but there's a lot more going on than meets the eye.

The synopsis for the episode reveals that Mason isn't the one responsible for the bombing so father and son are going to join the former suspect to find the real attackers who appear to have some connection to Codex. The mysterious organization has been popping in and out of the show all season and while we're unlikely to get any complete answers about them till much later, the episode should still shed some light on their agenda.

One of the sneak peeks from the episode that has made its way online shows Matty Weber (Meredith Eaton) being interrogated about something called File 47. She doesn't reveal what it is but she does reveal that the US government killed everyone who worked on it so maybe that has something to do with Codex's origins.

As if the return of his dad wasn't enough, it looks like Mac's going to have some extra family time as the synopsis and preview images reveal that he will be meeting his aunt Gwendolyn Hayes, who will be played by 'Star Trek: Picard' star Jeri Ryan. Now that might seem like cause for celebration but a sneak peek from the episode suggests that she's working for Codex.

Could Gwendolyn be the mysterious "she" whom Matty hinted at in Episode 6? Perhaps so.

Here's the synopsis for the upcoming episode: "After Oversight is almost killed in a bombing, he recruits Mac to help him find the suspected bomber, Mason (Peter Weller). However, when Mason reveals he didn’t plant the bomb, the three team up to track down Codex, the shadow organization that set them up. Also, Mac meets his aunt Gwendolyn (Jeri Ryan)."

The regular cast for 'MacGyver' Season 4 include Lucas Till as Angus “Mac” MacGyver, Tristin Mays as Riley Davis, Justin Hires as Wilt Bozer, Meredith Eaton as Matty Weber, Levy Tran as Desi Nguyen and Henry Ian Cusick as Russ Taylor. Guest stars for this episode include Jeri Ryan as Gwendolyn Hayes, Tate Donovan as James MacGyver / Oversight, Peter Weller as Elliot Mason, Keith David as Burke/Man, Amber Skye Noyes as Scarlett, and Michael Anthony as Suite # 1. The episode was written by Travis Fickett and directed by David Straiton.

'MacGyver' Season 4 airs on Fridays at 8 pm ET on CBS.
