'MacGyver' Season 4 Episode 12 Preview: Will Mac be pushed to the breaking point by his team's lack of trust?
'MacGyver' Season 4 has an explosive episode coming up that's going to bring some major changes to the game. In Episode 12 'Loyalty + Family + Rogue + Hellfire', Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Lucas Till) and Riley Davis (Tristin Mays) are reportedly going to leave the Phoenix Foundation and join the terrorist organization known as Codex.
This betrayal is bound to be a difficult thing for Mac and Riley's friends, especially Mac's girlfriend Desi Nguyen (Levy Tran). Hopefully, this is all a ruse to get some inside info on Codex but there are a bunch of sneak peeks from the episode that have been released by CBS that hint at Mac reaching breaking point.
Over the last few episodes, Mac has struggled with a part of himself that believes Codex might be right and so far he's managed to win over his dark side thanks to the support of his friends but the clips seem to suggest that might not last for long.
In fact, it's possible Mac and Desi might be having a falling out and that could be just the moment Codex needs to push him over the edge.
The first sneak peek clip released shows Mac jogging while a worried Desi tries to contact him only to have him cut the call on her. While stopping to catch a breath, Mac is attacked and taken prisoner by some people who we can only assume are Codex operatives.
A second sneak peek shows Mac meeting with his aunt Gwendolyn Hayes (Jeri Ryan) the infamous head of Codex. She reveals that the top Codex field operative Scarlett (Amber Skye Noyes), who is currently a prisoner of the Phoenix Foundation, has a sister named Ella (who will be played by guest star Mary Elizabeth Kirkpatrick).
She also reveals that Mac's mom Ellen (Scottie Thompson) didn't die of cancer like he was told by his father. In fact, she was killed by the CIA. Could this be the tipping point for Mac in his inner conflict? Quite possibly.
A third sneak peek shows Mac and Desi interrogating Scarlett, who reveals that Gwen isn't actually the one at the top of Codex. It appears even she gets her orders from someone else and who that is could be another complicated scenario for Mac to unlock.
We also see Scarlett getting to Desi, who tells Mac he is compromised because of how personal this whole mission is for him.
If Mac is really going to join Codex as a double agent, perhaps it is to find who these mysterious people giving Gwen orders are and if he's actually joining the group for real, chances are he's tired of being told he's compromised by everyone from his boss to his girlfriend.
Come on, cut the guy some slack! Mac has been through a lot but he is also the smartest person the Phoenix Foundation has on the payroll. If anyone is capable of seeing through Codex's manipulations it's him and constantly telling him he's weak is only going to make him want to trust his team even less.
'MacGyver' Season 4 airs on Fridays at 8 pm ET on CBS.
