‘Lucifer’ Season 6 Ending Explained: Did Lucifer leave?
Episode 9 of the season sees Lucifer enjoying his last day on earth with his family. He meets everyone, from Amenadiel to Mazikeen, and makes them realize how important they have been to him. Everyone gets emotional, even Maze. They all are clueless as to what is happening, but Lucifer knows that it might be difficult for him to see them again.
Lucifer enjoys father-daughter time with Rory and their relationship seems to be getting better. Meanwhile, Chloe believes that if he doesn’t go out, then he won’t have to leave the family. Chloe goes to the market and when she comes she finds Rory and Lucifer sitting on the couch. Lucifer wants to have a great day, so they all go to the beach and have a blast. Lucifer admits that he loves his daughter and knows how it feels to be abandoned. He was abandoned by his father when he was little.
They hug each other as the entire family sits and enjoys the day. Rory leaves because she wants her mother and father to spend the day with each other. After a good day at the beach, they return home and there are still a few minutes for the day to end. The duo enters the panic room that Lucifer made and locked themselves up. The door will open when the day ends.
They successfully do the challenge and come out as the day ends. However, he gets a phone call that serial killer Vincent Le Mec is out of prison and has kidnapped Lucifer’s daughter at 10th and Swanson. According to Rory, 10th and Swanson is the place where he disappears.
In the last episode of the show, Lucifer and Chloe reach the place to face the enemy as partners. While fighting the bad guys, Chloe gets injured by a knife attack and sits on the ground. She wants Lucifer to save their daughter and he confronts Le Mec. The serial killer is ready to kill Lucifer’s daughter, but Lucifer tells him that he should kill him instead because that’s what will make him suffer. According to him, he should kill him because the pain of leaving loved ones behind will make him feel an insufferable pain and that’s what Le Mec exactly wanted.
He went down to his knees and was ready to sacrifice himself for his daughter. As Le Mec is about to kill him, Rory breaks the shackles and stops Le Mec, picking up by his neck as her face starts to burn up like the devil. Lucifer pleads her to not kill Le Mec because she needs to be better than her dad and everyone else. She listens to him and lets Le Mec go. However, he tries to stab Lucifer from behind but is shot by Chloe.
As they head back home, they realize that there is still a chance that Lucifer might abandon them. Lucifer finally gets to know why he left them. It is because Hell doesn’t need a keeper, it needs a healer. Just like he helped Rory, he needs to be in Hell to save those lost souls. As soon as they get to know, Rory starts to get teleported to hell back again. Before going, she wants her dad to promise her that he won’t change anything.
Lucifer, with tears in his eyes, says that he can’t do this because he’ll miss your childhood like that. However, after some persistence from Rory, he finally promises her that he won’t change anything in the future.
Who’s the new god?
So, as far as the new god is concerned, Amenadiel is now the new god. Amenadiel told Lucifer that he is ready to become a god and he can make their siblings travel to Earth to live among humans and get to know them. Meanwhile, Lucifer goes back to hell to help those poor souls.
Chloe joins the LAPD again, and as we move into the future, we see her on the deathbed. Rory comes to meet her but Lucifer is not there, just as Rory told them earlier. She dies and goes to heaven. We then get a glimpse of Lucifer trying to solve the problems of the lost souls in hell. He is now acting as a therapist for them. A knock happens at his door and as he opens the door, it is Chloe who’s standing in front of him. Chloe sacrificed her place in heaven to be with Lucifer in hell. That’s a befitting end to the series because they both really were “partners to the end.”
