'Lucifer' Season 5 Episode 5 is titled 'Detective Amenadiel' and that hints at not just Detective Chloe Decker (Laura German) getting a new angel partner, but also the role that Amenadiel (DB Woodside) plays in untangling the knot that was originally created by Michael. The archangel who is also Lucifer Morningstar's (Tom Ellis) twin brother had revealed to Chloe that she had always been a part of God's plan for Lucifer and this resulted in Chloe feeling powerless and especially overwhelmed around Lucifer. She began questionning her feelings for him and also wondered if she had fallen in love with him because that was also a part of a grand plan or if she had ever had free will.

As a result of this, Chloe decides that she needs space from Lucifer and also tells him that she needs time. So she decides to investigate a new case without help from Lucifer. Even when she was desperate for Lucifer's mojo, she stayed from him and all of this hostility only grew when she overheard Amenadiel and Lucifer speak about how it was none other than Amenadiel who had "blessed" Penelope Decker.

Of course, the first thought that strikes Chloe is if "blessing" is an euphemism so she just comes out and asks Amenadiel if he is her father. Charlie's baby daddy laughs out loud and says that he is not and calms her down. However, that doesn't make any difference to Chloe as she has only learned about more lies. However, when her case about a nun being murdered requires a gentle nudge, Chloe decides to use Amenadiel, hoping that he has the same mojo that Lucifer does. Instead, what the two of them figure out turns out to be much more than the killer. Amenadiel solves the secret behind the Chloe's immunity to Lucifer's mojo.

As Chloe and Amenadiel begin interrogating the nuns of a church in Los Angeles, the latter tells Chloe that he feels as if he is back in the Silver City. He tells Chloe that the love that the nuns have shows his father and the abundance of belief is the reason behind the similarity. So when Chloe asks him to use his mojo, all that Amenadiel does is look at with a lost look. He tells her he doesn't have the same power as Lucifer and while the two argue about his supernatural strength, the nuns from the church begin to gather around him as if they are hypnotised by his presence.

Amenadiel realizes that the nuns will also answer his questions truthfully, which Chloe uses to investigate the case. It is upon contemplating why and how the nuns feel so close to him that Amenadiel realizes an important truth about Chloe and Lucifer's relationship. He served by his father's side and was the strongest warrior in Silver City. So the love that he has for his father is strong and the nuns who sees him do not only see Amenadiel but they see their love for God reflected right back at them. This is also why they are hypnotized in his presence.

As Chloe solves the case, Amenadiel solves the mystery behind Chloe's immunity to Lucifer's "charms" and finally epiphany strikes. He realizes that the blessing that he had given Penelope's child was to be able to see Lucifer for who he really was. The others around Lucifer see their desires reflected at them, just as the nuns saw their love for God reflected back at them. However, Chloe sees Lucifer for just who he is and so, her decision to fall in love with Lucifer is powerful because she hasn't fallen for the image that Lucifer had built around him, but she really did like him.

Similarly, the reason why Lucifer was vulnerable around Chloe might as well be because Lucifer chose to be so and not because that is a side effect of Chloe being a blessing, Amenadiel speculates. This is what changes Chloe's mind. She also realizes that there could be truth to Amenadiel's speculation and so she decides to talk to Lucifer about it. Turns out, until that very moment, even Lucifer hadn't realized how he had opened himself up to Chloe. He seems surprised and this melts Chloe enough to erase the fear that Michael had managed to manipulate in the past. We see the two kiss as the episode comes to close, but is this really the end of Chloe's fear?

'Lucifer' Season 5 Part 1 is scheduled to release on August 21 and can be streamed on Netflix.
