2022 really seems to be the year for miracles. We first had the ‘King of K-pops’, BIGBANG reuniting and making a comeback after years. The face of one of the biggest girl groups, Bae Suzy from miss A is making a comeback as a singer after focusing on her acting career for the last four years. And now, Lucas from NCT and WayV has come online for the first time since his dating scandal and subsequent hiatus.
In mid-2021, the Chinese idol was embroiled in a dating scandal where four alleged ex-girlfriends claimed that he dated them, gaslit them, cheated on them and used them for their money. Some fans came to the conclusion that even sexual assault might be involved and so canceled him and turned their backs on him. However, some loyal NCT fans have still held on to hope as neither SM nor Lucas denied or accepted the allegations in their apology letters. And while the WayV member finally came online, Knetizens wonder if it has something to do with his labelmate, aespa’s Ningning.

Lucas updates on Instagram
On February 9, the NCT fandom was in an uproar as Lucas finally came online and posted a black and white photo of the sea on Instagram without any caption. Some eagle-eyed fans think that it was the same place where the rest of WayV had gone for a holiday. With SM being known for keeping a close eye on their artists’ social media, many think that Lucas posting is a sign that there is an update on his scandal or that he is coming back from his hiatus. However, Knetz have other ideas.
Recently, Knetizens have been hating on aespa’s Ningning for supporting the Chinese winners at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics which has been called out for cheating and cultural appropriation. It should be noted that Ningning is Chinese and also cheered for the athletes from South Korea and other countries. But the situation has blown out of proportion as an angry Knet went to the extent of hacking the idol’s private Instagram.
'Haters gonna hate'
Well, with Lucas coming online on the same day, Knetizens think that it is a strategy employed by SM to divert attention from Ningning to the NCT star’s scandal. The comments on Lucas’ post on a Korean platform was filled with negative comments as Knetizens cussed at him and asked him to go back to China. Amidst them, there were comments about the timing of his post like, “I think he's trying to divert the attention to himself because Ningning was being criticized for supporting China in the Winter Olympics.” Another user posted, “Ningning was getting too much hate, so he posted I think. Lol.”
One Twitter user also tweeted, “They made lucas post to take the heat off of ningning why i win like that.” Another added, “Is it just me Or did SM made Lucas update his insta to take the heat away from Ningning. Nevertheless I'm happy to finally get an update from Lucas but really really sad/ mad about the whole Ningning thing. Let my girl breath.”

However, international fans have found the whole situation ridiculous and are calling out Knetizens. One user tweeted, “Haters gonna hate.” Another added, “Just let him post a pic, jeez.” One user posted, “What's wrong with Ningning being supportive of her home country and Lucas uploading a sea post? I don't get the whole mocking, knetz are mad cause they live for idols' mysery - the only moment when those antifans feel they're on the idols' level lol.” Another commented, “Korea netizens are so stupid, there's no problem with Nining, she's Chinese stop being so dumb and ridiculous they think that she need to stop to cherish Chinese atlethes this is so ridiculous, leave Nining and Lucas alone !!!!” One fan shared, “Oh wow. Knetz must be really hating on Ningning. I didn't even think the hate was that extreme. "Divert attention" lmao. Leave him alone.”
