Lovelyz member Kei cast as female lead in Korean musical based on cult hit ‘Death Note’

Lovelyz member Kei, who recently signed with the label Palm Tree Island, lands the main lead role of ‘Misa Amane’ in the ‘Death Note’ musical

The popularity of the Japanese manga classic ‘Death Note’ has led to several adaptations like anime shows and movies, as well as live-action movies, dubbed in multiple languages, including English. Now, a South Korean music label, OD Company, has announced that they will release the Korean version of ‘Death Note’ in the form of not one but two musical shows with different characters.

Kei, a former member of Lovelyz, who recently was in the news for becoming a Musical actress after signing with the label, Palm Tree Island has now bagged one of the main roles in the musical version of ‘Death Note’. On January 24, OD Company announced the release of ‘Death Note’ -The Musical and reported that the musical will be performed at the Chungmu Art Center Grand Theatre in Seoul, South Korea. The show will be performed from April 1 this year and will go on upto June 26.

Kei will become ‘Misa Amane’ in the ‘Death Note’ musical

The musical ‘Death Note’ is based on the Japanese manga of the same name, which is why many well-known characters remain in the musical version too. OD Company announced that two sets of actors will perform in the musical. They revealed that former Lovelyz member Kei is one of two actresses who will take turns playing the character of ‘Misa Amane’. The character of Misa Amane is that of Light’s (the main character) love interest.

It was also revealed that TVXQ’s Kim Junsu will return to play the role of ‘L’, the arch-nemesis of the main character ‘Light Yagami’ in the 2022 Korean musical version of ‘Death Note’. It will be interesting to see the chemistry between Junsu and Kei who are currently labelmates at Palm Tree Island as ‘Musical Actors’. Fans are excited to see the duo perform together as both Kei and Junsu are part of the same lineup in the live performances of the ‘Death Note’ Musical.

The plot of ‘Death Note’

For the uninitiated, the story of the Korean Musical, ‘Death Note’ is based on a popular anime and manga of the same name. But the musical version is not an exact copy of the popular anime series. The plot of ‘Death Note’ revolves around the character of Light Yagami who accidentally discovers a book called the Death Note which essentially does as its name suggests.

Whoever finds the Death Note can write a name on it. If the said name meets the conditions prescribed on the Death Note, the person dies. With Light having this power, he lands into an immense battle with a famous detective ‘L’ whose goal is to find ‘Kira’ - the name Light goes by when he uses the Death Note. The anime is available on Netflix with various dubbed versions based on one’s location.

Even though the production of the Korean musical is in full swing, the days of airing, as well as ticket information for the upcoming shows, are yet to be revealed. The OD Company has however released a comprehensive list of actors who will participate in the upcoming performance. The musical ‘Death Note’ will be performed in front of an audience in April 2022.

Fans of Kei are extremely excited about her being part of the same lineup as Kim Junsu who is known to have been a part of Korean musicals since 2015.
