'Love Story' Episode 8 promises the waterworks with major twist in JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's relationship
Things get difficult for John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette in 'Love Story' Episode 8. The Ryan Murphy show starring Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon as the lead has now aired seven emotionally riveting episodes, with the penultimate chapter releasing on March 19 on FX and Hulu. Based on author Elizabeth Beller’s Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the FX limited series follows JFK Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly), the son of former POTUS and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Bessette, later Bessette-Kennedy (Sarah Pidgeon), as their whirlwind romance had people swooning.
Titled 'Exit Strategy', the episode picks up from Carolyn's struggles of enduring constant and relentless public scrutiny. To add, the tensions between both their families rise, setting the tone for a drama-filled Episode 8. Additional cast members include Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, Naomi Watts as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein, Leila George as Kelly Klein, Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette, and Constance Zimmer as Ann Marie Messina.
According to FX, the official synopsis reads, "Tensions boil over after John and Carolyn discover devastating news." In episode 7, the honeymoon phase of the country's then-most papped couple comes to a rough end. From Carolyn's career at Ralph Lauren to JFK Jr.'s family affairs, to news of an imminent motherhood, the series captures the details in gut-wrenching fashion. And going by the logline for Episode 8, there's more waterworks in store. For those yet to catch the series, "As their love story unfolded on a national stage, the intense fame and media attention that came along with it threatened to rip them apart," the official synopsis reads. It further added that the chapters will delve into "the complex and heartbreaking journey of a couple whose private love became a national obsession."
In related news, Pidgeon reflected on her initial reaction when he landed the role. "When I got the role, the weight of that responsibility was always in the back of my mind, along with how much I wanted to do Carolyn justice in this interpretation of her story," she told Harper's Bazaar. "Connor [Hines] wrote such an incredible character. That was evident in even just the two scenes that I had first read in my audition. I was familiar with Carolyn Bessette, but I did not know even a drop in the bucket of knowledge compared to what I know now." Episodes 1-7 of 'Love Story' are streaming on Hulu and Disney+. The finale is slated for March 26.
