FIJI, OCEANIA: 'Love Island USA' Season 5's premiere episode made a lot of buzz on the internet. As the episode ended, the emotions cornered toward one contestant and that was Carsten "Bergie" Bergersen. Being a hopeless romantic, the contestant won the viewers' hearts in the first episode. Sadly, the star did not pass the surprise compatibility test in Episode 1.

Anna Kurdys and Bergie were seen voting for themselves in the compatibility test around as they felt they were not compatible enough compared to other couples. This put the couple in a vulnerable spot. There was indeed a lot of fear for one of the contestants to get either ruled out or self-eliminate from the show. Well, this time the decision was up to the couple themselves. Bergie became the one who was chosen to leave the villa. But then came a twist in the show.

Carsten 'Bergie' Bergersen gets second chance after nearly leaving the villa

Bergie was leaving the villa and said, "I chose myself." He had tears in his eyes and claimed to have been feeling guilty. Bergie claimed, "I just felt like I wouldn't be able to fall asleep in an empty bed tonight without a guilty conscience." But, it seems the game did not end for Bergie. After the contestants gave their teary hug to Bergie, the Dairy Queen Manager received a text on his phone. It read, "Still in the game." This means Bergie got a second chance. Bergie will be asked to "throuple up" in the next episode of 'Love Island USA' Season 5. But after witnessing "poor" Bergie almost walk out of the villa, fans got emotional.

'I sympathize with him'

As Bergie wore his heart on his sleeve and cried at the end of the episode, a viewer commented, "I sympathize with him." Another wrote, "I admire Bergie's courage for voting himself out of the show, but I'm happy that he was given a second chance. Though I still think this show isn't for him. For the sake of his mental health."

Another prayed for Bergie and said, "THIS WAS TOO MUCH!!!! Bergie is officially my favorite and I can’t stand Anna, I hope she goes home. I feel like she TOTALLY played on his emotions to get him to do that because he's obviously a good guy. I hope he gets a girl in the end that will be perfect for him."

One fan wrote, "I mean why do that to him.. everyone knows he isn’t to most attractive person then put him on the show like that… shot is crazy." Another called out the show and commented, "#teambergie what was the point of him even being brought on the show??? did him so dirty!!"

Furthermore, another viewer wrote, "Team Bergie rise, Justice for Bergie." One fan called out the producers of the show for doing him dirty and said, "This is appalling. I will not rest until bergie gets the justice he deserves. Why would you bring him on just to kick him night one??? How do sh**ty producers like this get their job."

A fan wondered, "I'm sorry but why did y'all pick him for this show!!! He's too sweet, he's gonna end up getting hurt and all the girls will friendzone him."

'Love Island USA' Season 5 premiered on Peacock on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. During premiere week, new episodes will be available to stream every day at 9 pm ET. Subsequently, new episodes will be released on Thursdays through Tuesdays on Peacock.
