The finale left viewers with many questions. Is the Robinson family now lost in space? ‘Lost in Space’ is an American science fiction television series on Netflix. The series that is about to enter its second season follows the Robinson family, who in the aftermath of an impact event that threatens the survival of humanity, is selected for the 24th mission of the Resolute, an interstellar spacecraft carrying selected families to colonize the Alpha Centauri star system.

Before the beginning of season 2, let us take a look at where things were left off at the end of season 1. In the final episode, ‘Danger, Will Robinson’, John Robinson (Toby Stephens) and Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) survived an explosion. But they are stuck in the ship’s wreckage in orbit, with only a few hours of oxygen left.

11-year-old Will Robinson (Maxwell Jenkins) was upset to learn the robot (voiced by Brian Steele) was now under the control of June Harris (Parker Posey), a criminal and psychopath who assumed the identity of her sister Jessica to take her place on the colony ship and subsequently impersonated Dr. Zachary Smith during the attack to take his seat on an evacuating Jupiter 2 ship.

Maureen Robinson (Molly Parker) trapped Dr. Smith and the robot in order to search for John and Don. Just as they were about to retrieve them, however, Dr. Smith escaped. Maureen led the robot into the garage just as an alien ship arrived to retrieve the engine.

Even as the alien robot was about to kill Will, his robot remembered him and attacked the alien robot, saving the boy's life. In the ensuing fight, both robots were flung out into space and the garage ramp is damaged.

When Will went outside the hull to manually close the hatch, he lost his grip. Luckily, he was saved by his father, who was rescued by Dr. Smith. With everyone safely back on the Jupiter, Maureen locked Dr. Smith up. Before they could dock with the Resolute, the alien engine aboard the Jupiter 2 sent it and the Robinsons to a different galaxy.

The finale left viewers with many questions. Is the Robinson family now lost in space? With the Robinson family out of action, will Victor Dhar (Raza Jaffrey) now lead the colonists onwards or mount a rescue mission for their fellow humans? During the robot battle in the finale, Will's arm was injured -- it looked somewhat infected. What will this mean for Will? Can he survive this?

According to Netflix's official synopsis for the second season, "With the Jupiter 2 stranded on a mysterious ocean planet without their beloved Robot, the Robinsons must work together, alongside the mischievous and manipulative Dr. Smith and the always charming Don West, to make it back to the Resolute and reunite with the other colonists."

One can only hope the Robinson family makes its way back to Alpha Centauri or the Resolute. But in an unknown star system, the real question is how. It would be more than difficult to gauge where they are, let alone travel from there to the rest of the colonists.

'Lost in Space' Season 2 will stream on Netflix on December 24.
