What does it take to get the police to take your complaints seriously? How can one go beyond police prejudice? American activist and murder victim advocate Mari Gilbert knows. When her daughter's disappearance was dismissed as an unrelated case, she fought relentlessly, challenging the findings and getting the case reopened as a murder investigation. 

But before the police took her seriously, she had a hard time getting them to even pay attention to her missing daughter - after all, who cares about escorts? Netflix's upcoming drama mystery 'Lost Girls' explores Mari's struggles surrounding the case. Here is everything you need to know about the movie.

'Lost Girls' will be releasing on Netflix on March 13, 2020.

Plot

According to the official synopsis of the movie, "When 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert mysteriously disappears one night, her mother Mari (Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan) embarks on a dark journey that finds her face to face with hard truths about her daughter, herself, and police bias. Determined to find her daughter at all costs, Mari Gilbert retraces Shannan’s last known steps, driving her own investigation to an insular gated community near the desolate outer banks of Long Island. Her discoveries force law enforcement and the media to uncover more than a dozen unsolved murders of sex workers, young lives Mari will not let the world forget."

Amy plays the role of Mari Gilbert fighting for justice for her daughter. The actress is known for her work in 'Gone Baby Gone', 'Changeling', 'Win Win' 'Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)'. 

Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, who is known for his work on 'The Usual Suspects', 'End of Days', 'Vampire Academy' 'In the Name of the Father', and 'In Treatment', will be playing the role of Commissioner Doman. Dean Winters and Lol Kirke also star in the show.

Creators 

The Netflix movie is inspired by Robert Kolker’s best-selling non-fiction book of the same name. It is produced by Archer Gray’s Anne Carey and is directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Liz Garbus ('The Fourth Estate'; 'What Happened, Miss Simone?').
