'Legacies' season 2: Five monsters we would like to see Hope Mikaelson and her friends battle next
In its freshman season, 'Legacies' followed a different format from its predecessors, 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'The Originals'. The show followed a monster-of-the-week format where Hope, Alaric, and everyone would then fight off whatever monster was featured in each episode. There were some great monsters in season 1 like a mummy, a genie called Jinni, a Necromancer, and a Dryad. There were also some questionably weird ones like the fish dude and the creepy undead guy that came in one episode. Showrunner Julie Plec hinted that the show would follow the same format in the upcoming season. With Malivore's return foiled by Hope, it could still be sending out mythical creatures for one reason or the other. We compiled a list of mythical creatures that have not yet appeared on the show and should come as the monsters in season 2.
Sphinx
The Sphinx is a mythical creature from Ancient Egypt that has the head of a human and the body of a lion. The function of a sphinx is to guard treasures. What if Malivore sends out a sphinx to guard either the pit itself or maybe something out in the world that Malivore has set its eye on?
Siren
There is a lake in Mystic Falls and a siren was introduced in the seventh season finale of 'The Vampire Diaries' that went on to become the main antagonist of season 8. The siren was named Sybil and had enslaved Damon and Enzo to do her bidding. Sybil's older sister was Seline who posed as Josie and Lizzie's nanny in the final season of 'The Vampire Diaries'. Both Sybil and Seline were really powerful and though by the end of TVD were deceased, the characters could somehow make a comeback or there may be another sister who has a need for the Saltzman twins' souls and could maybe appear in more than one episode if they come to 'Legacies'.
Centaur
The centaur from Greek mythology is, like the sphinx, part human and part animal. With the upper body of a human and the lower body and legs of a horse, a centaur is an intelligent creature that is often caught between its dual natures. Perhaps a centaur could reach Hope in the Malivore pit and perhaps help guide her way out of it.
Kelpie
The Kelpie is of Scottish origin and is a shape-shifting water spirit (think the Loch Ness monster). A Kelpie could take the form of a beautiful horse or a human and seeks a human companion, whom they then lure underwater and devour. Including the Kelpie obviously opens up avenues for many jokes about the Loch Ness monster and it could be one that terrifies Landon who cannot swim.
Nian
The Nian is a dragon-like monster from Chinese mythology. You might recall seeing the colorful dragon during Chinese New Years' celebrations. The Nian is a creature to be feared and comes once a year looking for food. Nothing could stop it, but it is said to be kept at bay through its fear of the color red. The dragon outing of last season was quite enjoyable, so if the writers need to do something similar, the Nian is the way to go.
