NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: According to the most recent national poll conducted by NBC News, over half of American voters, constituting 52%, report that they or a member of their household possesses a firearm.

This marks the highest percentage of voters acknowledging gun ownership for themselves or their households since the inception of the NBC News poll in 1999.

In response to this development, Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham expressed her views on X (formerly Twitter) and took a harsh dig at Democrats.

Evidently, numerous X users did not react positively to Ingraham's comment, with many of them criticizing her on her tweet.

Laura Ingraham slams Democrats on high record on gun ownership

Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham took to X and wrote, “When Americans don’t feel safe, they’ll defend themselves. Of course, the Left prefers us to be defenseless.”

In her tweet, she shared an article from NBC News titled, “Poll: Gun ownership reaches record high with American electorate.”

The article reported that a recent poll by NBC News indicates that 52% of American voters own a gun, marking the highest percentage since 1999.

In 2019, 46% of Americans stated that they or a member of their household owned a firearm, according to data from an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

In contrast, the corresponding figure stood at 42% in February 2013.

In this regard, Micah Roberts of Public Opinion Strategies remarked, “In the last ten years, we've grown [10 points] in gun ownership. That's a very stunning number.”

She continued, “By and large, things don't change that dramatically that quickly when it comes to something as fundamental as whether you own a gun.”

In the current month, 66% of surveyed Republican voters report gun ownership in their household or personal possession, whereas only 45% of independents and 41% of Democrats make a similar claim.

In contrast, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll in March 2004 revealed that 57% of Republicans acknowledged firearm ownership in their household or personal possession.

Comparatively, only 41% of independents and 33% of Democrats reported the same.

While historically, white voters have shown higher rates of gun ownership compared to Black or Latino voters, recent years have seen an increase in gun ownership rates among Black voters.

The NBC News poll also gauges voters' perspectives on gun rights.

Nearly half, or 48%, express greater concern that the government will not take sufficient measures to regulate access to firearms, while 47% believe there is a risk of the government going too far in restricting gun rights.

This one-point difference aligns with historical patterns in responses to this question over the past decade.

Internet slams Laura Ingraham for spreading lies

Following Laura Ingraham's commentary on the recent polls indicating record-high gun ownership, the internet responded with harsh criticism aimed at the host.

One person wrote, “You lie they should fire you. you don’t deserve even faux tv." Another added, “‘Of course, the Left prefers us to be defenseless.’ Not sure if Laura Ingraham works at making ridiculous statements or if it comes easy to her.”

Another fan criticized Ingraham, stating, “What are you so scared of all the time? Why are most people able to live their lives unarmed but cowards on the Right are terrified of their own shadow and need a gun to go pee?”

An X user said, “Laura stokes fear and terror because she’s an amoral Trunt.”

Another mocked the host, stating, “I'm so sick of your worthless pathetic ass always saying Democrats don't have guns. We just don't need to brag about our guns and put them all over the internet. Just like we don't feel the need to bow down to Biden like you guys bow down to Trump. You're f**king pathetic!”

One more wrote, “Selling fear and hate has never been as easy as it is today, right Laura?” and another commented, “That’s a load of horse s**t!”
