'LA's Finest' Season 2: What happened to Syd Burnett-Jason Calloway's relationship after their steamy affair?
There's a lot that happened in the second season of 'LA's Finest'. For starters, Syd Burnett (Gabrielle Union) determinedly hunting down Jen's killer, and in the process, she learned some harrowing details about Jen's dark past. Jen's (Sabina Gadecki) name was actually Malorie Mitchell and had been believed to be dead for years. Instead, she had been kidnapped and tortured, and sold into prostitution, before she met Syd. Syd had the unpleasant job of conveying the news to her mother and sister. However, things took a turn for the worse when the same kidnapper abducted her sister, Emma, with the help of one of his victims-turned-girlfriends, Beverly Gamble (Amanda Righetti), who was responsible for Jen's death. In a confrontation, Beverly held Emma at knifepoint, and Syd managed to talk her out of it. And then Emma (Taylor Black) lost control and shot Beverly, with Syd almost taking the fall for it. Nevertheless, all's well that ends well, and Syd finally got closure.
Yet, this wasn't all that was happening in Syd's life. At the beginning of the season, Syd appeared to be having a rather steamy affair with her boss, Jason Calloway (David Fumero) even though he seemed to be rather cold and indifferent to her at work. Syd panicked when she saw Jason's shoes at her place and took it as a sign of their relationship 'moving too fast'. Perplexed, Jason thought it was better for him to take a step back from their association as he said that he was caught between being her lover and boss. Though Syd was visibly upset by this, she did not say anything to him about it. Towards the end of the season, Jason seems to have receded into the sidelines and is only occasionally barking out orders or just checking up on Syd, infrequently. He didn't even seem involved in the whole internal affairs investigation when Syd was examined for allegedly killing Beverly. Their relationship status still remains up in the air, and it remains to be seen whether they can resolve their differences in the third season.
