'Star Wars' is all set to roll out some exciting new content and all of them are lesser explored themes and one of them is the Lando Calrissian ‘event series’ for Disney Plus, fittingly titled 'Star Wars: Lando'.

At Disney's Investor Meet 2020, the company announced a string of live-action series including 'Rangers of the New Republic' from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni that is set during the same timeline of 'The Mandalorian'. Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka Tano in her own series, 'Ahsoka'. Russian Doll Leslye Headland's mysterious 'Star Wars' series is titled, 'The Acolyte' and is dubbed a mystery-thriller series.

While nothing much has been shared about the series, here's a quick idea of what we do know so far:

Release date

Expect 'Lando' to debut sometime in 2022 considering the project has been greenlit. With details pretty scarce, what we do know is 'The Bad Batch', 'The Mandalorian' Season 3, and 'Rangers of the New Republic' might debut next year, meaning the spin-off may avoid overload of content and make an early 2022 release. Plus, it is still in its wee stages of development.

Plot

The series is based on the 'Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi' scoundrel Lando Calrissian. The Star Wars Databanks has a crisp description that reads: "Once a smooth-talking smuggler, Lando Calrissian changed from a get-rich-quick schemer to a selfless leader in the fight against the Empire. From adventures with the Ghost crew of rebels to the attack on Death Star II, his quick wit and daring proved to be invaluable."

Cast

Lucasfilm is yet to provide any details on the project. This would mean doubts if either Billy Dee Williams or Donald Glover, who have played the character in other live-action 'Star Wars' installments, are linked to the project. However, watch this space for new updates.

Writer/Director

Justin Simien attends the SAGindie Filmmakers Lunch At Sundance Film Festival at Cafe Terigo on January 27, 2020 in Park City, Utah.

Justin Simien is all set to helm 'Lando'. The director is known for helming 'Dear White People'.

Trailer

Wish we did have something here. 'Lando' might be one of the more groundbreaking series the franchise has to offer and a quick tease would have been massive. But well, we'll have to wait.
