Kingdom’s Chiwoo announces exit from the K-pop group, fans say: ‘Don't erase him'

One year and three months after boy group Kingdom's debut, member Chiwoo announces his exit from the boy group due to personal undisclosed reasons

With comeback season in full swing, a lot of K-pop fans are busy but the news of members leaving their groups always brings the lives of many fans to a halt. With boy group TO1’s Chihoon announcing his exit from the group due to personal reasons, fans of the fourth-gen groups have much more reason to be worried. Now, another rookie boy group member has announced his exit from the group he debuted with, leaving fans confused.

On May 25, GF Entertainment, the label that manages the activities of the 2021 boy group Kingdom announced that Chiwoo had decided to exit the boy group which caused a lot of confusion among fans. Without any prior notice or any suspicion of mismanagement or mistreatment, Chiwoo announced his departure from Kingdom leaving fans asking one question, “Why?”.

Chiwoo exits Kingdom after terminating his contract

Chiwoo made his debut as an idol and a member of the boy group Kingdom in 2021 alongside six other members -- Dann, Arthur, Mujin, Louis, Ivan, and Jahan. On May 25, GF Entertainment released a short and quipped statement informing Kingmakers (fans of Kingdom) that Chiwoo had decided to exit the boy group. With no specific reason given for the 20-year-old maknae’s departure from the boy group, the label stated that Chiwoo was terminating his contract with the label and leaving Kingdom for personal reasons.

The label also stated that going forward, Kingdom will promote as six members instead of seven. The 2021 boy group had a very unique storyline to their discography as each member of Kingdom represented one king or ruler that made an impact on the world. Over the last couple of years, the boy group released four albums in total, one for each of the four members, Arthur, Chiwoo, Ivan, and most recently Dann as part of their ‘History of Kingdom’ series.

'Chiwoo's not going anywhere from the lore'

Now as the Kingdom members only had three more comebacks to complete their the series with Mujin, Louis, and Jahan, fans are hoping that Chiwoo’s history would not be erased from their discography in the event of a new member being added to the group. One fan said, “Kingdom will not allow us to forget Chiwoo. I will hunt GF down personally if they try to erase him from the storyline. But what I'm saying is: storyline is still so fresh and new, they can still do so much with what they've established. Chiwoo's not going anywhere from the lore.”

They added, “And even if they choose to bring in a new member, all I ask is to give him a separate, new Kingdom. A whole new story can be told with that. So @KINGDOM_GFent don't erase Chiwoo. Adjust the storyline, I know you cam do it. And I know Kingdom is strong. We lost Chiwoo, but we'll never forget. They will come out of this even stronger.”

One fan wondered, “Why is chiwoo leaving kingdom no this is so sad.” One fan asked, “Why is Chiwoo leaving Kingdom ?? What happened?????” Another fan asked, “Chiwoo leaving Kingdom? Why...?” One fan said, “I don't know chiwoo why, but i hope you take action that you think is good, hope you are always healthy, me and other kingme will miss you very much!!!”
