LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 'Planet of the Apes' has created its own universe. The first film was released in 1968 by Franklin J Schaffner and since then have created many more films following that narrative. The original 'Planet of the Apes' movie was about an astronaut George Taylor's spaceship crash-landing on an unknown planet, he discovers, to his bewilderment, that the planet is ruled by apes much more advanced than its primitive human inhabitants.

But, as the franchise progressed, many stories were weaved. While some failed at the box office, like Tim Burton's 2001 reboot, some succeeded at the box office, like Rupert Wyatt' 2011's 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' becoming a huge success, serving a critically acclaimed and financially successful trilogy. While these movies changed the entire sci-fi genre, the new addition to the trilogy will be 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes', which is scheduled for a 2024 release.

The reboot timeline explores the 'Planet of the Apes' origins

The new 'Planet of the Apes' movie will explore the story 2011 James Franco starrer movie 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', where the story was about simian flu starting out as ALZ-113, a virally delivered gene therapy for Alzheimer's disease. The new movie will make many changes to the character of Caesar - a titular character that has been in both the original and reboot series.  As per the storyline, Caesar is a much revered and respected king of the apes, he fought both humanity and even his own kind to ensure peace for his species throughout the long Human-Ape War, becoming legendary among his people as a hero. But, Caesar died in the 'War for the Planet of the Apes' ending his story, 'Planet of the Apes 4' proves that the franchise isn't done making changes.

What will be the changes to Caesar's character?

While Caesar is dead, the new movie will show Cornelius acting as a successor to Caesar. But here's a twist, Cornelius was the father of Caesar in the original movie, but the production has turned things the other way around and will show Cornelius growing up and becoming the sole heir to Caesar's throne. Actor Owen Teague will portray Cornelius - the youngest son of Caesar in 'Planet of the Apes 4'. Teague's Cornelius will be the lead ape in the upcoming movie and will be seen following the footsteps of his late father.

'Planet of the Apes 4' premieres in 2024
