What's next for Taehyung? BTS V's 'Christmas Tree' hits top as first K-pop solo in US
While BTS is ruling the global music charts with one hit after another, band member Taehyung aka V achieved an incredible feat on the side as a solo artist. His recent track 'Christmas Tree' climbed to the top of the Digital Song Sales chart in the US, as it debuted as No. 1 single on the Billboard chart. On January 4, 2022, Billboard announced V's 'Christmas Tree' as the bestselling song in America this week, making Kim Taehyung the first-ever Korean soloist to rank at the top in US musical scene.
V's track 'Christmas Tree' consequently became the first Korean OST to ever make it to the top of the Billboard chart. 'Christmas Tree' was released as part of the soundtrack for the new K-drama 'Our Beloved Summer' starring 'Parasite' actor Choi Woo Shik in the lead.

V's 'Christmas Tree' has so far sold over 23,500 copies according to Forbes. Two years ago, BTS V had missed the Billboard bestselling tag by one rank with his solo single 'Sweet Night'. This time he managed to reign with his much-awaited song, whose music video has already garnered 4.2 million views on YouTube. On the Billboard Hot 100 line, 'Christmas Tree' debuted at No. 79, marking a milestone achievement by any K-pop star.
Prior to V, his bandmate Suga also reached No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart for his collaborative track 'Girl of My Dreams' along with Juice WRLD. Years ago, OG K-pop star PSY's 'Gangnam Style' had also emerged as a chart-topper though it did not debut at No. 1.
At present, BTS members are on a brief break after their exhaustive US tour and award show performances. With Suga, Jin and RM recently recovering from Covid-19, it seems ARMY might have to wait a while to get another smash hit from the BTS. The K-pop band, often dubbed as the next Beatles, has already teased a new album that will mark "the beginning of a new chapter". V, along with the other six members, is also preparing for their Permission To Dance on Stage concert in Seoul, slated for March 2022.
As soon as Billboard announced V's incredible feat, social media was flooded with congratulatory messages for the hitmaker, who recently turned 26 on December 30, 2021.
"It's crazy to think about it cuz taehyung would've randomly got the chance to sing an ost for his best friend's drama only for it to be THE FIRST korean ost in history to debut on the hot 100 !!! so proud of him," a fan noted.
"Taehyung earns his first entry as a soloist on the BillboardHot 100 with ‘Christmas Tree’ debuting at #79 this week. WELL DESERVED. He always give us the best music that warms our souls," another fan tweeted with a video montage of Taehyung.
