Joy Mangano is an American inventor and entrepreneur known for her incredibly useful inventions. Mangano was born in Brooklyn and raised in Huntington, New York and was quite the inventor from an early age. She credits her success to simply meeting the needs of consumers. She stated that just like everyone else she's a mom, she works, has a house to clean, and things to organize. She understands needs and simply addresses them. In 1990, she grew frustrated with the ordinary mop she used on a boat to clean up wine. This is when Mangano developed her first invention, the 'Miracle Mop', a self-wringing plastic mop with a head made from a continuous loop of 300 feet of cotton that can be easily wrung out without getting the user's hands wet. Initially using her own savings and investments from family and friends, she made a prototype and manufactured 1,000 units and sold them at trade shows and local shops. After a while she sold 1,000 units on consignment to QVC and went on air herself later and fabulously sold 18,000 units in less than 30 mins. She set up her business as Arma Products renaming it Ingenious Designs and later sold it to USA Networks. Mangano went from a frustrated mother of three and owner of a small business to a multi-millionaire, as by the year 2000, the company was selling about $10 million worth of Miracle Mops each year.
