John Stamos shares DUI arrest was ‘pivotal moment’ on ‘Today’ show

On Sunday Sitdown with ‘Today’ host Willie Geist, John Stamos shared that his 2015 arrest in Beverly Hills was a “pivotal moment” in his life as it helped him get back on the right track.

He said, “It changed everything. I got in my car like a fool, and I was not sober. I was driving around Beverly Hills. And looking back at it I was like, 'Oh my God, I could’ve killed somebody. Horrible day.'"

In his memoir ‘If You Would Have Told Me’, which was released on October 24, Stamos candidly revealed that he had a period where he "went off the rails" in 2015.

However, following his arrest, he decided to seek rehabilitation and stated, "I got my stuff together."

Stamos told Geist, “And I realized that everything that I wanted in life was not happening. You know, yes, I got the girl, I got the TV show, I got Beach Boys. But I wanted a family. The most important thing I hadn’t done."

John Stamos, a member of ‘The Beach Boys’ for four decades, was previously married to model Rebecca Romijn from 1998 to 2005.

Following their divorce, he found love in Caitlin McHugh, known for her role in ‘Alleged', and the two tied the knot in 2018. That same year, the couple welcomed their first child, a son.

John Stamos talks about co-star and friend Bob Saget’s passing

In January 2022, John Stamos received the heartbreaking news of his ‘Full House’ co-star Bob Saget's passing at the age of 65.

Reflecting on this moment, Stamos shared with Geist the lessons he learned from the last dinner he had with Saget, emphasizing the importance of patience.

He noted, "Well, we're always in a hurry to go somewhere next."

Stamos continued, “You never think, 'This is the last time I’m going to see my best friend, or that this was going to be the last picture we're going to take.’”

“But he was somehow — he was everything that I wanted Bob to be at that moment. He was calm and he listened, and he didn’t talk about himself that much,” Stamos concluded.
