Joe Scarborough discusses controversial conspiracy theories while analyzing Donald Trump's poll numbers
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Morning Joe’ hosts Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Willi Geist had a discussion over the latest polls in Iowa surrounding former President Donald Trump.
However, there was disagreement seen between husband and wife – Scarborough and Brzezinski.
The friction was caused because Scarborough compared the 9/11 attacks, moon landing conspiracies, and other controversial conspiracies to Donald Trump's poll numbers, all in one breath.
On August 21, Des Moines Register reported on the new polls by NBC News where people were asked, “whether you believe or not believe Donald Trump’s claims he won the 2020 presidential election.”
51% of likely Republican caucusgoers said they believe the claims made by former president Donald Trump, 41% do not, and 8% are unsure.
Mika Brzezinski explains Iowa polls
Mika Brzezinski announced the Des Moines Register poll numbers to the viewers and her co-hosts. The poll also included 69% who make less than $70k a year, 62% of Evangelicals, and 59% of people without a college degree.
As soon as Brzezinski announced the numbers, Joe Scarborough chimed in, “You know, this is the sort of thing, I don’t know how much to pay attention to this.” Brzezinski tried to interrupt her husband and co-host, but Scarborough continued.
Joe Scarborough talks about conspiracy theories
“I don’t want to freak anybody out at home, so please hold on to whatever you’re holding on to.” Scarborough then mentioned 9/11, “but there’s a point in 2005 where 60% of democrats thought 9/11 was an inside job. It dissipates, all right.”
Brzezinski, who sat next to her husband sucked in a deep breath at his mention of 9/11, and Scarborough continued, “You get the moon landing conspiracies, we got the JFK conspiracies.”
It was at this point that Brzezinski interjected once again, “Different timing though, with social media and technology.”
As Brzezinski spoke, Scarborough talked over the entire time, “We have the JFK Jr conspiracies…yeah…yeah…yeah.”
“It’s a little bit different, Joe,” said Brzezinski almost sternly and Scarborough responded, “It’s different, and yet…it’s not different.”
Brzezinski chuckled at this as she shook her head disapprovingly.
Scarborough also mentioned that the poll numbers from the Des Moines Register were “ground noise” and it would be an issue if the number was close to 90%.
