Jessica Jung gets chance to redebut with Chinese survival show after SNSD stint
Along with the glamor and fame that accompanies K-pop, there is also a dark side as idols get blacklisted, forced out of their groups, cyberbullied and end up suffering from mental health issues. And one of the most heartbreaking scandals happens to be around SM Entertainment. Fans were shocked when reports came in that the label had forced American-Korean idol, Jessica Jung out of SNSD aka Girls’ Generation. They also allegedly blacklisted her so that she could not re-debut or promote in major broadcasting stations that had a tie-up with SM.
Jessica went on to expand her solo singing and acting career overseas. She was also the founder of her own fashion brand BLANC & ECLARE, which is, unfortunately, facing financial difficulties due to the pandemic. However, it seems that things are looking up as she just might get to re-debut in an idol group once more. On April 3, there were rumors that Jessica would be participating in the Chinese survival show ‘Sisters Who Make Waves’ season 3.

Jessica Jung to compete in a Chinese survival show
‘Sisters Who Make Waves’ is a Chinese audition program that hopes to give former female celebrities a second chance and help them re-debut once more. The participants are celebrities over the age of 30. In fact, in season 1, one of the winners who debuted in X-Sister was none other than former K-pop idol Jia of miss A fame. The Season 2 winners were also popular Chinese singers and actresses. And so, there were several rumors that Jessica Jung would be competing in Season 3 of the show, that she was Chinese of Korean descent and that she would be representing her former group, Girls’ Generation.
The leaked profile
On April 4, her current label Coriden Entertainment clarified that Jessica Jung would indeed be participating in ‘Sisters Who Make Waves’. But apart from joining the Chinese survival show, none of the other rumors was true. They explained that the leaked cast list which shared that Jessica was still part of SNSD was fake and untrue. Coriden explained, “Since she has withdrawn from Girls’ Generation, she does not promote with the name Girls’ Generation at the forefront.”
Mango TV, the producers of the Chinese show have also shared that the cast list was not made by them and they were not aware of it. A Korean chat forum was abuzz due to the fake profile stating that Jessica was Korean-Chinese and would be representing Girls’ Generation. And so her label hopes to clarify all misunderstandings by requesting Mango TV to release an official statement formally denouncing the leaked profile.
