Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is bringing back Jessica Jones and after a second successful season, Krysten Ritter, who plays Jones will make her directorial debut for an episode

Right off the bat, 'Jessica Jones' will have a third season, which will be its last. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is bringing back Jessica Jones and after a second successful season, Krysten Ritter, who plays Jones will make her directorial debut for an episode. Here's what we know so far about the upcoming season.

Release date

'Jessica Jones' will premiere on June 14 on Netflix.

Season 2 recap

The second season follows Jones (Krysten Ritter) as she takes on a new case after the events surrounding her encounter with Kilgrave (David Tennant). The season also saw the introduction of her mother, Alisa Jones (Janet McTeer), who was presumed dead and the rest of the season is about how Jones shields her mother from all threats, which proves futile in the end.

Plot

While much of the plot is under lock and key, going by Ritter's chat with Comicpalooza, the third season will focus on the new challenges Jones will have to face in the future. The actress confirmed to Comicbook, that while seasons 1 and 2 were mostly about discovering Jones' past, the third season will focus on new supervillains and more about her powers and evolution as a character.

Jones is shown getting back to having a relaxed life in the final minutes of the second season but it's sure to change as she still has a score to settle with Trish (Rachel Taylor), given that the character killed Alisa (Jones' mother).

Cast

Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones as will Rachel Taylor ('The Darkest Hour') as Trish Walker. Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville), and attorney Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) are set to be back as well. The biggest surprise will be the return of David Tennant as Kilgrave after showrunner Melissa Rosenberg teased on Twitter, he's not done with playing the character.

Writer/Director

Rosenberg will return as showrunner for the final season and Ritter will be directing an episode. The series will be based on the comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos.
