Girls' Generation fans slam ex-member Jessica Jung for hinting about girl group's betrayal in novel 'Bright'
Girls' Generation, also known as SNSD, has trouble brewing as their former member, Jessica Jung, releases one novel after another. The novels have a disclaimer about the "fictional" nature of the characters and incidents portrayed but its connection to reality is what has Sones (fans of SNSD) raging at the former member. Ever since it was announced that Jessica was going to release her second novel, 'Bright', a sequel to her 2020 debut book 'Shine', she has been met with criticism for trying to manipulate the time she spent as a member of Girls' Generation.
Back in May, before the novel was released, fans of Jessica posted excerpts from her second novel, 'Bright' which narrated the story of Rachel and how jealousy among members of her fictional girl group, 'Girls Forever' caused Rachel to give up on her dream of becoming a K-pop idol. Jessica's second novel was released on July 28 and fans were finally able to read the entire book, which is raising a lot more questions about the proximity of her story to the real-life incidents and some fans are calling her out for bad-mouthing Girls' Generation members.

Did Jessica Jung bad-mouth Girls' Generation?
In the new book, the main character Rachel has a new dream as she finds love, friendship, and growth as an artist after making her debut in a top girl group. The story also highlights situations unique to the entertainment industry, from conspiracies, and plotting by agencies, to jealousy and betrayal from her own group members as Rachel struggles with emotion she endures in secret. The novel is being met with criticism from fans of Girls' Generation as one fan said, "Why is she being vocal after so long? This is fishy."
Another fan said, "Ah s**t here we go again this girl will never get over this and keep telling stories which she doesn't have to be legally responsible for since this is a novel." One more fan said, "I rlly used to be ot9 but this whole situation with her and her stupid f**king books … she knows damn well how ppl are and that people would take everything seriously and literally and snsd were gonna get the s**t end of the stick. disgusting and disappointing."
One fan said, "They were friends for years. But she can do this and doesn’t even care about the others reputation cause well it’s “fiction” but she do know what will happen, while the others never do that but taking the hatred she caused with smile." Another fan said, "Notice how she's milking out of snsd after they announced her bankruptcy." One more fan said, "Jessica stop lying and trying to be the attention seeker! You are just a mean girl in the group, plus having no talent and character, adding 0 value to the group."

'Her story has been consistent'
On the other hand, Jessica's solo fans have defended her by saying how she has been silent for years, and the book is her way of venting under the guise of fictional characters. One fan said, "People who don't read the book keep thinking if Jessica drags all the snsd members, even though it's clear in the book that only a few members are envious and envious of her." Another fan responded, "Exactly and Jessica didn’t make the girls look bad at all. She also mentioned some flaws of the members too. Like if I were in her shoes, I would tell dispatch and make a video & tell the whole story but she tells us through “fictional” books with fictional names instead."
One more fan said, "Actually, what makes the noise here is, all the fans of ot8 members keep accusing and blaming Jessica. Even though Jessica was just trying to speak from her personal point of view, and told what she saw and felt. Supposedly, if snsd fans don't accept that, they just need to force the ot8 members to come out and speak from their own point of view. Then all problems will be solved, maybe." One fan said, "And the fact that they give "the benefit of the doubt" to 8 people but don't give the benefit of the truth to one is so hypocritical."
Another fan said, "She never announced bankruptcy. This is why she wrote the book. The misinformation and media slander happened for 8 years." One more fan said, "Why others snsd members can still love being snsd that they still willing to have comebacks even after going on separated ways, while Jess can't? She's the longest trainee in snsd, and she couldn't feel hurt by everything that pushed her out?" A fan said, "Honestly, I would still be mad after all those years if I was prevented from doing something what I love the most, or that’s just me. (No hatred to anyone while writing this)."

god the novel was fiction. there are 3 sides of a story. her side, the other's sides, and the truth.

This is Jessica’s official statement through Blanc & Eclare’s website right after SM’s official statements were released. SM is known for suing their artist IF they have issues. She could’ve been sued by SM IF she’s lying. Until now SM never deny or sued Jessica for it pic.twitter.com/gifhaezif1

Her story has been consistent since she was removed from the group

I feel like people in the comment section should put themselves in her shoes like, wouldn’t you feel negative emotions when you can’t really do something that you’re very passionate about anymore and some of the people that made it happen are now doing it freely?

Another fan remarked, "Her story has been consistent since she was removed from the group" while another said that those against Jessica should put themselves in "her shoes" and ask if they also wouldn't feel "negative emotions" after being robbed of a career in something they loved. For now, it remains to be seen if Jessica, by implying betrayal in 'Bright,' could open herself up to defamation suits under Korean law that punishes "reputational damage" caused.
