LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: There has been a massive shift in the DC universe this year. The shelving of 'Batgirl' at the beginning of the year to the introduction of 'Superman' in the 'Black Adam' movie has dropped jaws of every fan. Rumor has it, new jaw-dropping news has been added to the list, which is Jason Momoa will be seen as his iconic character, 'Aquaman', for the last time in DCEU's upcoming, 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom'.

New DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are preparing to meet with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav regarding their multi-year plan for the DCEU. This plan has probably shelved 'Wonder Woman 3', canceled the sequel of 'Black Adam', and a halt to Momoa's 'Aquaman' role. Some fans are also speculating if this will also spoil their chance to see Henry Cavill's 'Superman' but nothing has been confirmed or denied by the banners. Regardless, Momoa will be introduced as a new character in the new DC universe. Read further to find out more about this new role of Jason Momoa.

Gal Gadot's 'Wonder Woman 3' SCRAPPED as James Gunn, Peter Safran take DC Universe in new direction

According to The Hollywood Reporter, multiple sources explain Momoa could have a major part to play in those multi-year plan changes. Apparently, one scenario would see Momoa have his 'Aquaman' swan song in 'Lost Kingdom', though that would not mark the end of the actor's time at DC. Sources say Momoa could lead another franchise, and that the fan-favorite character of Lobo has even "been mentioned in connection with Momoa."

Furthermore, the outlet also reported that currently, Gunn and Safran are reevaluating a variety of DC movies in the pipeline. A 'Man of Steel' sequel starring Henry Cavill as 'Superman' is in flux and the Gal Gadot-led 'Wonder Woman 3' is effectively "dead" in its current form. A 'Black Adam' sequel with Dwayne Johnson is also being described as an "unlikely" prospect at this stage.

In the DC comics, Lobo is an alien from the utopian planet of Czarina, and works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Lobo has battled multiple clones of himself and fought with members of the Justice League over the years, from Superman to Aquaman.

It may be an interesting watch to see Momoa shift from playing the protagonist to an antagonist of the DCEU.

'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2023.
